Why do we have such a lack of non-striking goalscorers?

By failing to see the point completely?

Back on topic and away from the arguing, Chappaz I'm honestly not that worried. You've compared with last season and Nolans goals, but he scored the vast majority playing further forward than Ben Arfa does with the odd few off his arse at corners, theres no way you can class most as 'goals from midfield'. I expect Cabaye to manage to beat Bartons four when he isn't forced to play the holding role as he has recently, and I fully expect Obertan to get one shortly.

The key isn't who's on the end of them, its actually creating chances which we haven't done an awful lot of recently, luckily we do have Ba taking the few chances he gets. If we build on the start of the season, get some reinforcements in and start passing the ball again the chances will come and it doesn't matter who puts them away.

It isn't so much the position at the time, it's just the fact of midfield and defensive players scoring goals. Basically, goals coming from elsewhere other than our attacking duo - whoever it may be. Not only does it relieve pressure, but it helps us pick up those extra points along the way.

I wouldn't call it a worry at the moment. I'd just call it a situation where we would be better off. There's no huge negative, but it would be a welcome positive which other teams seem to have whilst we don't.

Perhaps it is a case of us funnelling everything to Ba. After all, if someone like Williamson is in the box with the ball, he may feel more comfortable giving it to Ba who is in top form. It may simply seem like the choice which will create the highest chance of scoring a goal. I suppose we'll see when the ACoN comes around.

Earlier today, Jose said Liverpool can't score because by chance the goalkeepers they play against are amazing on that particular day that they play them. Was just a little joke <ok>.

Probably a point worth adding though in fairness.

It is suprising. Especially when we've seen quality shots from Tiote, Colo etc in the past. We do have a very good striker though at the end of the day, perhaps the team are just focused on channeling to him? We might see a different side to the team yet again when he is away, you never know.

I think Obertan will get one or two by the end of the season too. I'm surprised to find somebody who agrees with me, most people want to see his head on a spike these days.

well... could be amusing ;) haha

He does make a valid effort now and then, he's got to pull it off at some stage. It just annoys me when there is a striker in oplace to go for it. Picks the wrong times. I just put this down to wanting to prove himself though

if im honest i quite like obertan ...hes got a few assists and gives defenders a real headache on the counter even if he loses the ball a lot im still a great believer in backing all your players no matter what

Obertan is more about his mind than his skill or ability. There are a number of things he can do when he reaches the byline, and he's capable of all of them, but he's just choosing to do the wrong things. He'll need to learn.

Obertan just has no idea when and how to pass. He absolutely is a headache for defenders because he is annoying, regularly running at them and prancing about side to side to give us time to organise an attack. Usually it amounts to little or nothing because of his **** decision making but it still gives enough time to relieve any pressure that may have been on our defense.

He has his uses, and if he could just work out when to make the perfect pass I really think it will drastically improve just how useful he is overall to us.

Yet again while I'm typing out something long winded, somebody comes in and explains it in a far more clear and succinct manner. <applause>
