That's a bit extreme, what I think he's trying to do is protect him at present and allow him to develop physically, a 17 year old at the start of the season may have needed a conditioning programme ? I don't know the answer but if he turns out to be a world class player in 2 years time as a result of AW patience/strategy then I'd say it's a success
Haha, anybody watching Ryo last season could tell he was a million miles away from being ready. He made a large impact in the first 5 games but faded afterwards. He's pacey and tricky, but he lacks power, experience and understanding of the game. Huge talent, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him hanging about the outskirts for another 4 years. Heck, if Wellington Silva sorts himself out he could easily overtake Ryodinho.
Ah! right I understand now- so these 2 buys were for 'possible' use at some stage maybe in a couple of years time IF they are any good! Silly me - I imagined they might be signed to improve the precarious situation we found ourselves in - it was long term dice-rolling then.
The use of sarcasm is matched by the idiocy of suggesting that these 2 buys were for anything but the future. I'm 18, and I could not imagine being at the level of physical development required to play at that level. Obviously I'm not PL level, but while I can shoot, pass, dribble (my speciality) and move about the pitch reasonably well, I could not maintain the athleticism. It takes someone incredibly special to do that at such a young age. Just because there are a few players who can do it, ie: Alcantara, Wilshere, Messi, Goetze, Erikson, Ronaldo, Shaqiri, Hazard, Adams, it doesn't mean it's the norm. Look at RVP, Walcott, Arteta, Iniesta, Xavi, Villa, Vidic. They all developed a little later. Yes we should be buying some players for the here and now. But if, for example, we had bought Hummels, Ronaldo, Messi, Neuer and Yaya when they were that age we'd be laughing right now. And god knows we tried for some of those. Wenger also bought lots of players for the current squad in summer, so don't go off on one.
err.... OK - he loaned Yossi - and was lucky Chavs wanted to reduce the wage bill. He bought Ryo & Oxo 'for the future'. He bought Park - why? - to please Asian fans? He pulled off Arteta simply by getting him to drop about £20k per week - because he wanted CL football. Merte MIGHT be ok - but when our injured are back he'll be sidelined. This is your ' its alright - he bought lots of players'?
He played Jenkinson .. and Jenkinson played fewer games for England U19/U21s and played fewer games for Charlton. If he can play Jenkinson he can definitely play OXO - he's further from our goal too so less of a risk.
This makes no sense - he was playing regularly for Southampton in Div 1 which is arguably faster and more physical than the Prem. They play a combination of ping pong football and rugby in that league
I'll turn everything you wrote against you because you don't have a clue. Age has nothing to do with it, if a player is good enough he is ready, because someone is small/slight that doesn't mean he isn't good enough or ready Tony Adams played for Arsenal aged 17. Walcott was playing regularly for Southampton in the Championship aged 16 - a faster and more physical league than the Premiership because they don't tend to slow the game down or play possession football. Lots of players can do it at a young age - not just the best players in the world - you don't see them often though because there are more established players in front of them. I've played with dozens of schoolboys on pro books and I can tell you they can handle themselves against men. YOU can't maintain the athleticism because you are not fit enough ! Wenger's success in the Carling Cup rounds was because his kids had more energy and skill than their more experienced older counterparts who they would beat regularly. You confuse being physically able and being technically able, some players mature in footballing terms before others. Gareth Bale was physically able to compete - he was doing gut busting runs for Southampton - he has now matured technically .. he is only 22 ! It is the younger players who have the lungs to go flying up and down wings with little effort. I know players who play on a Saturday with their club, then play Sunday league, then go for a kick about in the park with mates later, don't tell me they are not physically able to handle it !! Youngsters have the fitness to run rings around older players, they won't win in a grappling contest .. but football isn't about grappling.
You can debate with the guy without throwing petty insults like saying he does not have a clue, you know.
Hothead - Wilshere is built differently, he was physically mature at 18 but he was only given a regular place last season when he was 18 despite being available and probably capable at a younger age. As for div 1 football you have a point, though there is a difference in the number of games played (international, league and champions league) by your average div 1 player compared to a top prem lge player particularly in Autumn. As I said earlier, I don't have the answer, I'm just thinking of possible reasons why AW isn't using the guy
@SuperJackWilshere - no I can't, when he is telling people about their "level of idiocy" I think that makes him fair game to be brought down a peg or two himself if he is chatting rubbish. If he is going to jump on on stage and argue like that he better be able to backup his talk. I talk the way I do because .. I can backup my talk - I know what I am talking about. Grizzly, according to the internet, OXO is 5ft11 .. he is almost 6ft !! But he looks far shorter because he is wide. Jenkinson looks far taller but is allegedly 6ft1 only. There is no way OXO isn't physically ready - I reckon he'll end up looking like the beast Baptista
Hothead - thanks for defending me !!!!!! I had to laugh at the 'idiocy tag levelled at me by rannar whatsit.
Prodigiously talented player but one of the most selfish and wasteful I've ever seen. Needs to mature big time before he can become a truly effective Premiership player but the only way that's going to happen is to start giving him some game time. Like some others I'm surprised he isn't getting any at all.
He deserves a chance - but I agree with EmirAlks, it was better to bring Arshavin on in the Wolves game (he nearly scored a blinder) Oxo needs to get game time when it's not all hands to the pump and massive high pressure situations.
Yeh it is a mystery as to why oxo hardly ever plays, as soon as a i saw arshavin come on yesterday a part of me knew that we were only going to get a point, he is an absolute disgrace and oxo should really be getting some game time every time we play. Hopefully we can offload chamakh arshavin and squillaci in january and bring in some top players.
To be fair I can't see him getting any game time for the rest of the season then. He won't play in the FA Cup, and every league game is massive in the New Year, he certainly won't get any CL game time either, we may as well right off his chances of seeing him play this season.
I'd send Oxo out on loan. if we're not using him, then it would be good for him to go somewhere where he can play regularly. Somewhere like Bolton. Worked a treat with Jack.
