He looked unplayable last night. O.k. probably Norwich gave him more space than he would normally be allowed. But, it seems that any oppositions' only answer is to triple,or even quadruple mark him. His pace scares the crap out of any class of defender - he's strong, skilful, and still very young. All the alarm bells must go off for any team once he gets the ball and starts running at them. As Harry has said - he must be virtually priceless in today's market.

supporters of other teams don't rate him, from what i can make out, which is all good for us.he reminds me a lot of Cliff jones running at speed at the full backs, the only difference is Cliff was great in the air.i like the way gareth can swap wings to,which gives the opposition more problems.Harry's right when he said he's virtually priceless.

Swap wings? He played in the middle last night! Stick a pair of gloves on his hands and even Friedel would be worried about his place in the team.

Garreth Bale: The definition of good.

Do you think you'll be able to hang on to him and Modric for much longer? I think it's highly likely that one of the 'more money than sense' clubs are going to come in with an astronomical bid for at least one of them soon.

I guess a lot depends on whether Spurs can get Champions league football, which looks likely at the moment, but we are only half way through the season and the tough part is yet to come.

He played everywhere, heck he even played alongside Parker and Sandro for a bit. Against the weaker sides who "like to play football" such as Norwich and Swansea, Redknapp can afford to let Bale play whereever he likes without fear because he knows that Bale can track back and defend when required.

If other people don't rate him, all the more better for us!

I'm reading a book about him at the moment and the thing that stands out is always striving to make himself better.
He also says that he doesn't need to move clubs to achieve great things, he is certain that Tottenham will give him the success he wants.
    Very refreshing.

Also, he's still very young. The scary thing for any opposition is that he's only going to get better! Piskie, mate. As Harry said there are very few clubs in the world who could afford to even think about bidding for him. I believe that Messi has a buyout clause of some £150mm - o.k. Bale is not up there in that class (yet!) but you would have to start talking £70-80mm+ He's still only 22, he will probably get stronger, faster, more experienced etc over the next few years.

I think they can see that they've got the chance to win things with Spurs now and that should keep them happy. I guess that you don't agree with most of your fellow Arsenal fans that Wilshere is better than Modric and Walcott is better than Bale: it would be nice to think that the cash-rich clubs agreed with that analysis but unfortunately I think they all may have actually watched these four play.

'Arry said "I played him in a free role, him and Rafa, rather than on left." and it looks like it was set up as 4-2-3-1. 'Arry has also recently talked about how Bale has learned to move around the pitch to avoid getting marked out of the game. I suspect we've seen the last of Bale as an out and out winger, and that's a good thing IMO. Both his goals came straight down the middle, and that's where most games are won or lost these days. It's nice to have players who can go outside a fullback, just to keep defenders honest, but it's the middle of the pitch we need to dominate.

I noticed that when he went down the right wing he tried to use his right foot but wasn't confident, most times he was lucky the defender conceded a corner.
Harry said once that when learned to use his right foot for kicking instead of just balancing he would be unstoppable, not far off is he?

It has always amazed me when our quiet neighbours are so blinded by the quality of their English players.
It has been obvious for at least 1 year that Bale is so superior to Walcot that the comparison is absurd.
Like Peter Sellers to Lenny Henry, one is such a cut above the other.
Wilshire to Modric another ridiculous comparison. Wilshire a good player but does not have the flair and
technical ability to rival our micro Croat.
Bale on his day, is on his own planet, which others will never reach.

He has proved that his form last year was not a flash in the pan. Always looking to improve and from what I see, a modest young man who lets his football do the talking (unlike various players who have received the accolades he has). This feet on the ground attitude, his physical attributes and his footballing ability mean he has a sparkling career to look forward to, hopefully much of it with us. Imagine what he will be like when he is 25-26 if he remains injury free. Hard to believe he was the team "Jonah" not that long ago.

If we miss out on CL football again, I can't see us keeping hold of them or VDV and perhaps one or two others. If we do get it I'll expect some interest and bidding but as Levy's shown, he won't sell if he doesn't think it's for the benefit of the club and Bale seems down to Earth so I can't see him forcing his way out whilst things are going well. My main worry would be Modric but he's been let straight back into the fold after his tantrum and there's a great atmosphere around the club at the moment so he could be tempted to stay. I can't see any of our best players leaving for anything less than Barcelona or Real Madrid at an inflated price and I'm not sure Barca have the money without selling to get into serious negotiations with Levy.

With regards to the OP, he's overrated and rubbish :D I was saying Bale needed to drift into more central roles at the start of the season and I think it's only going to add another threat and another way he can terrorise defender, not that he really needed another reason.

I loved his free role. Good luck triple marking a player that is all over the pitch.

Thought he left his shooting boots at home then scored two! That 2nd goal was a beauty. The deft little chip shows how high his confidence is. Brilliant player!

Bale possesses the quality that all great players have. When he gets the ball expectations rise.

He's alright, but to say that he is the best player in the world and better than Lionel Messi is beyond ridiculous and ludicrous. I can name 20 players off the top of my head that are better than him.

  20. Quick question for you, Goon.

When you finish outside the CL this season, do you think you'll be able to (a) keep hold of your only world class player, and (b) attract any half-decent players to play, at best, Thursday night Europa League football?
