Willo's a good player and you could see the difference it makes when you have a CB who can naturally win headers. Looked a bit tired at the end though but I hope that he'll be ready for Friday ...

  3. Willo was good for half a season last season, but towards the end of the season he started making stupid mistakes.

Little stat at the end on the foriegn tele, Willo covered the second most ground in the match after Cabaye. No wonder he was tired!

Williamson was good, but to be fair to Perch he was playing with another comparatively small centre back, forcing us to risk a high line in the games he played. I daresay Perch would be a lot better with Saylor than Colo, despite Colo being a better player. Example would be most of the Chelsea game, where he and Taylor did fairly well together because we could sit back and win headers rather than rely on a high line and pace.

Either way though, much better with Williamson back, he did well and for all the talk about him being ****e on the ball, he completed a high percentage of passes and looked comfortable.

  6. The main difference was the headed interceptions and clearances. They could have decided the match, as well as Krul's saves of course.

With Perch we knew that we werent going to win headers, which is why we played the high line. If we had played the same system with Williamson it would be no different, he's even slower. The change in system is as significant as the change of personnel.

Very happy to see Willo back, defence looks that much stronger with him in it.

  9. Agreed. But we should have played a low line vs WBA. It's not like we were playing Stoke. This was WBA. Long is a titchy little ****. Odem is no aerial presence either.

Perch is **** in the air but he could have done enough to stop Long or Odem direct their headers towards anyone.

Long and Odemwinge are much better at running than heading. A low line would have changed the game IMO.

Small centre backs arent really any good for anything to be honest. Against Norwich's big, slow strikers we were caught at set pieces and against WBA's small, quick strikers we were simply beaten for pace. Unless you're playing against a small, slow striker it's useless.

Been to the Wellwood before, just thought I'd try somewhere different apart from a restaurant.

Do you know the name of the restaurant just up the road from Felton?

The good thing about Willo's game is that he knows what he can't do. He isn't the best distributor of the ball, but he knows that - so he doesn't make many silly or unnecessary ambitious passes. When he did make mistakes last year it was because he tried to be too cute or fancy and let someone use their pace or technical ability against him - e.g. Suarez.

Suarez is definetely playing. A liverpool fan on some thread earlier said it will be a while before Liverpool even get to appeal, so he might not start his ban until as late as February.

<laugh> I meant two small centre backs! I'm going to stick my neck out and say if we ever play Perch and Saylor together we'll do alright that day.

They may regret waiting when it comes to the last couple months of the season and they need to pick up some late points in hopes of qualifying for Europe.
