Hi guys I know we drew yesterday which was very poor, but look at the results of those around us: Chelsea 1v1 Fulham Arsenal 1v1 Wolves West Brom 0v0 Man City The League Table is as follows: 1. Man City - p.18, pts.45 2. United - p.18, pts.45 3. Spurs - p.16, pts.35 4. Chelsea - p.18 pts.34 5. Arsenal - p.18, pts 33 6. Liverpool - p.18, pts 31 7. Newcastle - p.18, pts 30 I believe we will not catch Spurs, United or City. The rest are fair game as far as i'm concerned. It's very unlikely we will get 4th after the Suarez debacle, but a new, quality striker will mean we will start collecting the points. Let's face it we are not miles off winning games. A good team starts with defence. We have that, in fact the best. We are making chances FACT. We just need someone to finish them. Whether we buy will determine our aspirations for this season. There are a lot of variables to be discussed. Arsenal without V.Persie, Chelsea's defence - whether we beat Newcastle and the other surrounding teams, Gerrard back? It should not be all doom and gloom! We are not getting hammered or anything.
Other teams around us dropping points makes it more frustrating. We dropped points at Wigan knowing either Chelsea or Spurs was going to drop points. If we're going to get fourth we need to pounce on other teams slipping up
True. I think forth is gone now with Suarez getting banned for 49 games. 5/6 more realistic I think. Some on here think that is not attainable which I find bemusing. A class striker and these 1v1 will be 2-1's, and look how many of those we've had. Small margins.
The FA is going over the top I find! And on where we'll finish at the end of the season, it really depends what we do in January doesn't it? What if we get another player that makes a Suarez like impact, or make a shock signing like Higuain or Tevez on loan? Unlikely, but if we did then things would swing in our favour then.
A top new signing who can finish and a CC win could give us that boost that we need, skill wise and mentally wise.
Yeah I agree. We are not that far off being pretty good! We're already hard to beat. If we don't invest then we will be asking for trouble.
I think we do have to take note of how far we have come in such a little time, and that we are a team very much in transition. A signing that can bring in the same influence Suarez did last season would be nice, but for now we just need to stay there and there abouts and take it from there, you have to be near fourth to get fourth. 3 points off fourth and we're arguably playing better football than Chelsea and Arsenal
Yes we can all moan wail and stamp our feet about our results so far but when all is said and done, we are generally playing attractive football and still only three points off 4th spot. Better than last season, yes or no?
If anyone says no then they're not a real fan. We nearly died as a club last year and people should remember that.
Remember last Jan? Let's hope this Jan we get another Suarez and not another Mandy (I don't mean literally obviously)
Thing is, we watch teams around us draw then we go out thinking 'well they have drawn so us drawing won't be too bad.' When they all win in the weekend, we then step up our game, like against Aston Villa.
Not sure it is about the team suddenly trying harder/easing off or anything like that cos of other results, again yesterday we created enough chances to win the game easily and if one of those had gone in everyone would have said good performance.
Against Villa we scored 2 and comfortably finished the game off. Spurs and Chelsea won that weekend but we knew we could catch Arsenal as they had Man City. The rest of the matches we have played later and see the teams were competing with draw or lose so we know that if we do the same it's ok as were in the same position as them still.
