That's very very common though. Most players don't come out and just say they want to leave, incase a deal doesn't go through and they have to put up with the angry fans.

It sounds like the issue is with Enrique's advisories and not Jose, as he clearly would of been advised the best way to go about the move.

Fair play. To be honest I don't know the circumstances in which he left, and I too prefer players who are willing to fight for the cause rather than international glory/glory in general *cough Owen Cough Torres. Nothin like being shat on by some ****ing player.

Internationals maybe, regulars? Whilst they were playing international football the national team must of known fully well where they were playing their club football. Few others have played for Spain too. Plus of couse Rafa was in charge who's obviously well known and respected in Spain. Those connections have made us well known in Spain and clearly some players see us as an avenue to the national team. Also, without being disrespectful, we're are seen as more likely to get European football - whether tahts a reality or not.

Your player loyalty part I agree with completely.

I don't see him leaving if we don't get Champs League.

Said he'd sign a new contract when we were mathematically safe, kept stalling afterwards staying silent, waited till a few days before the start of the season and left to join you.

Nothing that unusual then to be fair.

It's a bitch when it happens though, like us losing Torres and Meireles!

I'm not too fussed about it, the outcome for us was we signed Santon, can't be all bad can it?

Thing is what Enrique did a number of others did - Nolan, Carroll etc. used the 'forced out' line when I'm not entirely sure it is true. Barton too.

He looks decent enough. Not Enrique quality, but very good all the same <ok>

He's not far off though at only 20 years of age. If he sorts out his defending he's there.

Anyone else find it disturbing that it fell to Tash to point out that Enrique didn't 'stick with us' when we went down, he'd been woeful most of the season and had Charles N'zogbia playing out of position in his place until he was sold. Had someone come in I very much doubt we'd have had him or Coloccini in the Championship, but both players stock was so low that no one was interested at the wage levels they were being paid.

Back on topic I've no real issue with his comments, but I honestly don't think he's good enough for that Spain squad. Any other nation in the world he's probably straight in, but Spain are ridiculously blessed with talent across the park, including left backs who've achieved more than a handful of assists and a goal against Nottingham Forest in the last four years. He's a top player defensively, but so are a number of other Spanish fullbacks.

True. Didn't realise he was that young, looks a very good prospect indeed...

Colly, Jose had the chance to leave as Chelsea (Speculation) and Sunderland made a bid for him, but he rejected both to stay with us.

    EDIT: It was only Sunderland.

He rejected Chelsea (Speculation)?!? Well that changes my opinion completely! Surely no one could reject the opportunity to play for a club like Chelsea (Speculation)?

Come on, the BBC gossip column isn't exactly a reliable source, had a fee come in he'd have been out of the door.

I'm surprised it took until post #30 for someone to say this. Enrique not playing for Spain has nothing to do with what club he plays for. It took until last season for him to really make a name for himself, and over his career his national team has been the best in the world. If he isn't in their national team by age 25, I don't believe he ever will be. They've had no problems at LB, and with every year that passes younger players are developing and improving behind him (Like Jordi Alba). Sorry Jose, you're a great defensive LB, you give 100%, but Spain doesn't need your help.
