In all my days watching football I have never made the connection between Hotspur and Hot Spurts. Thank you to my London chums for enlightening me. For this forum reader I have learned my dose of "something new every day".
Furthermore I'm delighted to feel that our connection to the US is close. I suppose hosting a few air- bases during our time of need goes close. Zak at the back is a soccer player by birth. Maybe a few more of our cousins across the Atlantic prefer a visit to the Broads than Tottenham. Who, I wonder, could blame them?

Anyway, thanks for the laughs London Chums and for giving me so much more to consider.

Fair comment, it is most definitely your decision; that having been said, I would have assumed that you could have found something decidedly more productive to do with you time than criticise a thread which many others enjoy. You always have the option of keeping quiet?

smart/smärt/ Adjective: Having or showing a quick-witted intelligence.

I'm pretty sure that a humorous critique of American Sports Culture would, by most, be considered to be a demonstration of both wit and inteligence. To take the abstract notion of applying US-style commentary to a British institution requires suprisingly more intellect than you might imagine. I certainly reject the idea that this thread does not require any intelligence to both write and read, and if that is what you are implying, then you are most definitely incorrect. I would go as far to say your lack of understanding in why people may enjoy it, demonstrates a lack of intelligence on your part.

I'm not entirely sure how you have reached this conclusion? Undoubtedly we (in Norfolk) are proud of our role in supporting the American Air Force both during WW2, and during their continuing presence in our fine county (if this is the predilection to which you refer). To say that this demonstrates "a predilection" for "things American" is wide of the mark, I would be very interested to learn why you claim this? Also, it is worth bearing in mind that Norfolk is a big county, here in West Norfolk (where I live) there are very few American service personnel, or Americans in general. Whilst I have several friends who are Americans, they have in no way influenced the decision to write the thread every week.

    Ball's in your court, Spurf.

Oh dear! all right since you have almost been polite, I will humour you with a reply.

    1. Stop being so sensitive, if you expect undiluted praise for your efforts, think again. This is a public forum so live with it.

2.More up your own arse bullshit. How much intelligence it requires to produce your thread is debatable, the fact that you think it requires more than I might imagine shows in itself a certain limitation of your own view of others.

    3. Here we have it! On the one hand you are presenting yourself as taking the piss out of American style presentation by adopting their format. On the other hand you are supporting the great American culture as portrayed by 'our fine country' . Now I understand you are referring to Britain, but I do not expect you to understand why I suggest that this is evidence of supporting American culture.

You can have the ball back and please keep it, the divide between you and me is far too wide to be bridged over an internet forum.

At no point have I indicated that I expect undiluted praise, I just prefer substantiated criticism. If you don't like it that's fine.

You have previous stated that this thread is stupid (or words to that effect), I put it to you that it is not.

I had written County, not Country.

I would just like to say, I used to enjoy watching Spurs, and always liked them to win, but a few (put your own word here, I can't think of a suitable one without being rude to the vast majority of decent Spurs fans) have changed my view forever!

Question: How do you make a Tottenham Hotspur follower look like a ****?

Answer: You don't need to do anything, they just do it all by themselves.
