Otherwise it's just a time when we spoil the kids a bit. As I said I dont need to lie to spoil my kids. There are plenty of opportunities for that. I believe in my faith, I believe its the right thing, so I tell my kids what I believe is correct untill they are old enough to decide. That to me is truly loving your kids. Religion has been a victim of natural selection too. Most people I know have kept the good stuff (Christmas, Easter Eggs, weddings, christenings), and discarded the bad stuff (praying, church, Lent, hell). Even the Catholic Church softens its stance on certain things from time to time. This happens from time to time and it is written in the quran that this will happen around about now. Look at moses and the ten commandments he was barely gone when the idol worship started again. Its no different now, people worship celebraties, money etc The reaon people keep the weddings etc is because deep down they know or they are simpley hypocrites or sheeple. As for the catholic church, I believe it is ITS meddling and changing of religion that has led to the current situation. It has tried to 'fit in' and accomodate so much that it has lost its identity. It got greedy etc and changed the scriptures to suit. Most of what there is today is no different than me writing it
