Ok, as a non-smoker I am sure to get struck down by you lot, but has anyone noticed that the toilets are full of people smoking in the cubicles? I have mentioned it to stewards, but they really don't care - today I told the head steward and was told to calm down or I would be removed! I cannot believe that after having a ST for 37 years I would get threatened with that for pointing out that people are after all breaking the law. If they did it in the concourse I wouldn't care as it can disperse, but why should I go to the contained toilets and come out stinking of smoke?! I am not some kind of anti-smoking vigil-anti, but really, I point out that the cubicles are full of smokers and get told that if I continue to disrupt them with 'trivial matters' as they are busy, I will have to leave?! slate away............
i agree - i hate going to the toilets as it stinks of smoke, which i personally cannot stand its against the law and the stewards should be investigating but nothng is ever done about it
As I have said before, it isn't rocket science - put in a smoke detector, linked to lights for the stewards. That way no one would bother smoking knowing they would probably get banned. Why should I get threatened with leaving when I point it out to the 40 a day steward...or is that the real issue.........
Itchen Block 9. I went to the loo just before half time (in 1st half injury time actually) and complained to the head steward, only to be told to calm down while he stood OUTSIDE the loos saying "well, what can I do?". Well mate how about doing your job and going into the toilets and sorting it out? When I calmly (honestly) pointed this out, he said he didn't like my attitude and if i continued, I would have to leave! I have now put on my Victor Meldrew hat and emailed the club and Hampshire County Council....
The stench of smoke is not what should worry you it is the poisonous toxins you are inhaling. If anyone is so stupid as to smoke cigarettes that is ok by me just so long as they don't do it anywhere near me so that I don't have to inhale the poison they generate. You should have informed the steward that you will take the matter up officially with the club and that you will make a point of emphasising his unwillingness to comply with the law. As an employee of Southampton FC with a responsibility to ensure the saftey of the crowd he should have addressed this matter immediately with great urgency. I suggest you write to Nicola Cortese and ask him to ensure that this matter is addressed with conciderable urgency and that you will also be copying your letter to the Health and Safety Executive for them to also pursue with details of the unwillingness of key staff at SFC to comply with the law. Make sure that you give full details of the incident you have described above and details of the steward involved and his reponse to your complaint. Hopefully he will be dismissed immediately for his complete abdication of his responsibility of ensuring that the law is complied with and that the safety of spectators is paramount. There is no room for thei kind of double standard.
Well I'm not going to sit here and say all smokers are terrible people, you can do whatever you like as long as it's not near me. But I would be hacked off if I experienced that as well because the culprit clearly knows that what they are doing is going to be pretty disgusting to hundreds of people, but they do it anyway.
Yes it is. Smoking is disgusting and isn't allowed in enclosed public places. St. Mary's Stadium is apparently allowing the law to be broken, if these posters are to be believed. As Saints fans we should be worried.
Most smokers aren't terrible people, infact, most smokers I know are very intelligent and wise. But it's true that a lot of them don't care to think about the health of others(non smokers),they know the risks of smoking and continue to do so anyway.Pretty strange if you ask me.
Maybe not to you, but if I go to a 'Safety Steward' and complain, I do not expect to be threatened with being removed from the ground. I have emailed the club, emailed the council, but I doubt anything will be done. My mate who comes to the game who is a heavy smoker completely agrees with me - he basically thinks if he has to do without a *** for 2 hours, what makes anyone else more important than him to be allowed. Rant (nearly) over....
I agree with the approach taken, and suggested by Godders. "It's not a big deal." - in your own opinion, others will differ.
Smoking is disgusting, end of. If you can't go two hours without having a *** then stay at home and listen to the radio! It is not a rule for one person! Eject or ban the culprit next time. I hope something is done about it.
