This was raised on another thread, but I thought it warranted a debate of it's own. Spurs have benefited from cash rich Man City's decision to pay for Adebayor to play for Spurs and in the process take points from their rivals and propel Spurs to an otherwise unrealistic league position I'm not sure how many points Spurs have gained via Adebayor's goals, but they would not be in the position that they are now, if it were not for them benefiting from Man City's 'Charity' Basically, Adebayor is being used as a mercenary by City, to take points from their rivals. It amounts to them paying for a 12th man to play for another team. This is just one of the examples of City's obscene wealth skewing the rules and the fair competition of the game. In my opinion, this type of arrangement should be banned. Spurs should either pay for Adebayor's services or they don't have him at all. The alternative is that City, to ensure parity to their rivals, are made to lend and pay the wages of several other key players to their rivals. Arsenal get Aguero for the rest of the season Utd get Silva Chelsea get Yaya Toure. I'm sure Spurs fans would have something to say about those arrangements if they came to fruition.
Just joshing Pisk, I agree with what you said about Spud fans, they would definitely have something to say if one of us were to get one of their better players.
How do you know whether you're paying all of Benayoun's wages or not? Simple answer is that you don't. Loans shouldn't be allowed between teams in the same division. It ends any conflict of interest problems. Does sound like a pretty bitter article, though.
Some of us probably would, it wouldn't make us right though. The Adebayor deal is no more than a symptom of the great wrong that is City and Chelsea. Really, is paying half of Adebayor's wages really worse than Chelsea or City making huge losses but continuing to vastly outspend their revenue? Get some perspective and stop sucking lemons
I couldn't care less about you signing Adebayor, it's not against the rules. I'm just saying, some of you would say the same as PISKIE has said if the shoe were on the other foot.
You've been loaned an entire squad by a dubious Russian businessman, Drogs! Slightly more influential than one player on half wages.
Now who's sucking lemons? I just said I wasn't bothered you had loaned Ade, there's no rule against it and to use it as an excuse for you finishing above us would be stupid. Change the record please, it was boring enough reading it on the match thread I made!
As I said, it wouldn't make us right if we did complain and as I've also said, there's far greater evils at work, like your club. Personally, I think it's quite ridiculous that the OP appears to believe that Tottenham benefitting in the minorest possible way from City's unearned spending power is something worth talking about by comparison.
The conflict of interest is that City are paying another team to take points off of their rivals, in the process handing one team an unfair advantage (Spurs) and artificially propelling their own ability to climb the table. If it wasn't for Adebayor's goals Spurs would be much further down the table and the Gap between City and the chasing pack wouldn't be nearly as big.
It isn't farcical at all. Just because you could pay his wages in theory, doesn't mean that you would or are. The circumstances are identical. Where did you get Benayoun's wage information from, by the way? Sounds rather low for a player that was at Liverpool and then moved to Chelsea. You're borrowing Benayoun from a club in the same position as City are financially and you're lending Bendtner to Sunderland, which is the same thing but in reverse. Find an article from me moaning about either of those loans and I'll agree with you.
The usual arrangement for loan signings is that the club the player is at pay his wages. It was a unusual circumstance that City decided to pay £100k per week for Adebayor to pay for Spurs: (1) because they can afford it (in any normal circumstance, Adebayor would not be playing for Spurs) (2) Adebayor is a known Diva and would have caused dressing room upset sitting on the bench at City (3) It was an arrangement that suited them, throwing another £5.2m at a problem to try and enable them to win the league, by taking points from their rivals. It has skewed the competition in favour of City and Spurs and is another example of money being used to gain an unfair advantage. There's no evidence to suggest that Chelsea are paying one penny of Benayoun's wages whilst he's at Arsenal. I'm happy to stand corrected if anyone can prove otherwise.
If you'd have signed a striker that you could have afforded, then I don't think anyone would have a problem. As it is, Man City are effectively paying for a 12th man to bolster their own chances and in the process hand Spurs an unfair advantage.
