i hate defoe. i don't want him. i would like to have 2 of the following:

Sharp! (no e, some people have put an e on the end)
    Maynard
    Rhodes
    Jutkiewicz

then possibly a winger (not sure who) and a cm like Jacob butterfield.

I haven't seen anything of Jacob Butterfield, but even if he is playing well do we really need a CM? Where would he fit in with Cork, Hammond, Schneiderlin and Chaplow. When Connolly is back, and when (or if) we get a striker in, then Guly will move back to wing with Lallana meaning 2 of the four will not be in the first team anyway.

Spot on about the CM. We also have JWP making serious waves in the U18 and development sides. I still think we need another winger as I'm not at all confident in Holmes staying fit and I wouldn't be too comfortable pushing fullbacks forward either.

Why on earth would we need another CM ? Best part of our team I think. Lots of quality and battling for starting places !

By "a CM like Jacob Butterfield" I assume you mean "Jacob Butterfield". I don't think it's that likely that we will sign him, there's no reason to drop Dean/Morg/Chap/Cork.

I'd love it but no way he comes to a Championship team and no way they let him go for anything less than £6-7m

I honestly would rather have Sharp, Rhodes or one of the other Championship strikers than Owen, Defoe, Zamora, Berbatov or any other big-time prem striker. There are so many reasons not to want them. They would ultimately be a short-term fix (and we would be a short-term fix for them) which is not what we need, want or have to settle for. We want players that want to play for the team, develop and improve with the team, and win promotion with the team. Furthermore, it doesn't fit into the Southampton FC philosophy IMO.

Spot on <ok>. I'm confident that any player in the Championship can see what's happening at this club and if they don't want to be a part of it, then they are no loss to us. On the other hand anyone coming down from the Prem is going to be short term because (a) they are coming to the end of their career, or (b) they are out of favour and just want to get some games under their belt and don't want to stick around for long.

Defoe has completed his medical and has signed on loan for the rest of the season, what a great deal! A real coup by Adkins and Cortese. Story should be up on the OC anytime soon.

Loving the fact we can attract a big name player like Defoe, shows we're moving forward!

Defoe, Owen, Torres, these aren't big names. I think we should sign Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Stelios Giannakopolous, and Jakub Blaszczykowski.

I would love it to be true, and it would certainly be this so-called "shock signing", but I have to say that I'm just not buying it. It really is a case of needing to see to believe it.

I heard it was David Villa, he is just faking the broken leg. He is resting so he won't be injured when he joins us <ok>

i think he is saying you want butterfield specifically rather than 'a midfielder like butterfield'

Butterfield is a very good player, but why sign him when we have 5 very good CMs already? Can't see us needing more than 2 strikers and a winger to see us home and dry through the season.

The second of those strikers could well be a loan as we'd be able to bring in a higher calibre of player should we be promoted.
