Set to link up with former strike partner??? I'll be sorry to see him go if this is true. He may not hit the onion bag that often but his all action approach makes things happen up front.
Nice lad, tries his heart out. Hasnt fulfilled his job description- score goals. I wont be sad to see him go if true. Dont let the barn door hit you on the arse on the way out.
I could see this happening if im honest, dont know how much of our money we would get back for him though?
Well its my local paper and certainly not the one I'd go to for soccer gossip about Hull City players!!
The fact that they plan to end their interest in Billy Paynter sounds reasonable enough. Nick likes complete footballers, I can imagine that Mclean's first touch drives him mad, so I wouldn't see this move as a complete surprise(though like many stories we'll see in the next month or so, it's probably rubbish).
Why would Nick want to sell McLean before he has shifted that 'useless lump' Fryatt? (Lights blue touch paper and retires to safe distance )
I like McLean and rate him as a championship striker but its one of those whereby if you want to right up there then you need higher quality throughout the side. Of the XI that have been in the side the past few weeks you'd suggest he's probably the weakest link.
Without reigniting the Fryatt/McLean debate (OK I am a bit) does anyone remember McLean's finish at Forest? That was the best shot I've seen from a City player in ages. It just flew straight in the corner, no messing about. I've never seen Fryatt show anything like the shooting technique involved in that shot. I don't want this to become another epic argument, but the 'Fryatt good; McLean bad' conclusion is nowhere near accurate. They both work hard and linkup well, Fryatt has a better touch but is too wasteful in front of goal, McLean is a better finisher but doesn't get in the positions Fryatt does. They both have a role to play and we shouldn't be (and won't be) looking to get rid of either of them.
Mcleans better when it comes to snapshots, give him time to decide what to do and it all goes wrong. I'm not sure I've ever seen Mclean in a 1 on 1 situation with the keeper now I come to think of it.
if they want to pay daft money then I reckon we d be daft not to look at daft quotes for any players, provided we have suitable replacements
I saw that article and wondered about how good the source was, but you never know. Not entering the Fryatt debate. Mclean has been given a place by NB a number of times now and maybe he thinks we can do better. You need three strikers scoring to get out of this league and maybe Nick thinks we can wheel and deal and end up with three stronger options. I have a lot of time for Mclean but when you really need a goal and the chance falls to him, do we think inside our head "it's a goal" as he hits it.
cannot see this happening at all. imo, more chance of CMS coming this way. another stupid story. isnt the chichester observer the local paper for the vicar of dibley ?
We already need back up for Fryatt & Mclean so letting him go would be silly, even if we are bringing in another striker. Anyway he's a played a big part in getting us where we are !
I for one to do not want to see McLean leave as I like him as a player and what he brings to the team. I admit he's not exactly prolific but he brings other things to the team which help their cause i.e. getting in defender's faces and constantly putting pressure on them. He's a part of the system which is really starting to work for us under NB. However if he does want to go down sarf then we'll move on and bring in a better quality replacement.
If we get 500k for McLean from Brighton then I'll be a very happy man, I just hope the story is true.
