I have read on here and I think I have seen the real evidence to say its true that Mr Cortese has promised a signing that will "blow everything out of the water" (not sure that was the term used). If so and people are saying Billy Sharp is a done deal the nothing against the man but its not a real signing of huge intent. Yes I want Sharp and yes I could of posted this in the transfer rumour section but I would just like clarity on what people think this means?. I saw posts saying Anelka well no. I saw posts about Owen well no. Not that I would want either of them just a insight in what you as fans would regard as a major coup etc.
I can't clear up what was supposedly said by the Don because all I have heard is probably the same as you. What i would say is that signing one of the leading scorers in the league (despite less league games, team he currently plays for etc.) is a big sign of intent. I imagine all the teams challenging for promotion would like to have him in their team. Another thing that i think people forget, whether its because of Leicesters crazy bids or whatever, but £3m is a LOT of money in this league. It is not far off of our record buy. If we manage to get Sharp I will be delighted and would consider it a massive signing!
I saw it too, where Cortese is supposed to have promised a signing that will "blow everything out of the water". I recognise the choice of words too. Personally, I think it'll be someone from overseas. Has to be, or we're taking OXO back on loan, or something.
Please, Le God no. There..! You've made me use a Matt Le Tissier expletive. I just hope MLT doesn't read this.
If it is Sharp i just cannot wait to see him and Rickie line up together that would strike fear into every back four in the league
I would like to know Cortese it's actual words...it could be Chinese whispers. If he said 'signing to blow everyone out of the water' it must be a done deal for some big shot who I would hope would fit into the team. A big signing is a little bit different. Adkins has said he needs to sign one or two in January. Hope they are singing from the same hymn sheet...and that Nicola is listening to Nigel.
Fran you hit the nail on the head. I do not want Owen, Beckham or even Torres - they would upset the team spirit we have. Think of our stars? Lambert, Lallana, Guly (honest!), Chaplow, Fonte etc. Be honest, who would have said hand on heart two years ago that they would be Premier league players in 2012?!
I guess were all in suspense I know I have seen it posted and I know I have seen those certain names bandied about. I am exciting by this news yes.... however I just wonder who started this say so or if there is any substance in the words used?! Any article or proof would be great! In the meantime I will continue to hope and speculate!
I saw this also Fran, However I wouldn't want Maynard seems sulky and miserable when his demands are not met. Would take big wages off us and think he's the superstar not our type of player.
I seen that to Fran, 8 million? bit steep And as for this "big signing" i hope its somebody who's ready for the next level, i can see it being a prem player, droping down the leagues, perhaps a player from the clubs doing battle at the bottom, and he see's a better future at saints?
Sharp would be a big signing and no doubt a good one, but it wouldn't strike me as one to "blow everything out of the water". That would suggest that he had something, possibly from abroad, bigger than the Decrap signing. All very exciting.
