One things for sure, he does not like Leicester & has categorically stated he will not sign for them. They will probably bid £8M now, they really struggle with hints up that way.
The thing with Maynard is, he offers more pace than Sharp does. A team without much width (as good as Lallana and Chaplow are on the edges of midfield, they're not exactly wingers) we could do with some pace up front. Though we're doing fine without much pace in Guly and Lambert, so who knows.
Went past staplewood today, saw messi leaving possible signing? ohh sorry it wasnt messi it was adam lalana the arsenal legend henry on loan? i know he's getting on but he'd bang them in at this level (obv not a rumour just saying)
Fontaine was very good against us when we played bristol away. Doubt we will go back in for him though. As for the strikers, I'd like to think we will go in for Sharp or Rhodes.
Not reliable I know.....Daily Mirror states Saints will make another bid for Bristol City's defender Liam Fontaine........not sure but I think we did have bid for him accepted in the summer but failed a medical due to a knee injury
Sharp might not be the quickest striker out there, but he still gets into spaces behind the defenders. Players don't need exceptional pace to do that, just a good reading of the game. A very quick option would be useful for running at teams who play a high defensive line - A lot of teams are playing a high line against us. I presume SDR was brought in for that reason, but he seems to have had a hard time of it.
Oh I know - look at the positions Lambert gets in and he has very little pace. I don't trust SDR in that role, though we've seen very little so he has time to prove me wrong - I just think Maynard provides a thread in running at defenders all game, while also having more to his game than SDR. Him and Sharp would both be great signings and I'm not particularly inclined either way, maybe towards Sharp for his (apparently, I don't know the guy but evidence suggests) impeccable attitude.
Seeing as BCFC have changed their stance on Maynard I think we will go in for him, the other key thing about Leicester is they have changed their manager since the summer meaning that Pearson might not be as interested in Maynard as Sven was. I read something about him saying that he wants Wagohrn back when his spell at Hull ends in Jan so he might not be looking for another striker.
I think it'll be Maynard. Sharp will want to stay local and settled after a tough time and feel he will want to give something back to the fans that have supported him. Jay Rod was apparently laughed out the building last summer and given his extremely poor form I doubt we would go for him. Juk of Coventry is a no-go in my opinion given that he hasn't done well this season. Maynard seems most likely as he has pace, and skill which is something we need up front Thoughts?
The 1 thing with Maynard is the price. In the summer BCFC were turning down 6 mil bids for him reportedly, if lower end Prem teams were genuinely interested in him they probably wouldn't want to be spending that sort of cash on an unproven striker, If the price was around 2.5/3 mil mark they may be more willing to take the punt, and if we are in competition with some of the middling Prem sides (Fulham have been heavily linked for example) I think he will choose them.
He is the Championship's joint 7th top scorer with 8 goals for a team at the bottom of the league that doesn't create many chances for him.
I'd say that he's having a better season than Maynard is. Think Maynard will be off to the prem though.
It's Jermaine Defoe !! Coming in on loan for the rest of the season! Fantastic news for the club! Premiership here we come!
Are you just enjoying yourself or is this something that you have genuinely heard from a reliable source? I can see why people would get excited by Defoe, but unless there would be an option to buy in the loan deal then i would rather buy Sharp, Rhodes or Maynard.
