He may not be that old, and pace was never part of his game, but some players do just decline early, particularly those who start really young and JWP did start young. Hard to judge his time at West Ham and Forest under Nuno as he just does not rate him at all. He played a lot and I think was decent under Potter at West Ham but that was a while ago now. A concern that he barely featured for Burnley though considering how bad they were. Even taking a massive pay cut he'd be a top earner here and I'm just not sure he's worth that anymore. If we lose Charles and Jander then maybe I'd be for it, if we just lose one of them I think I'd rather pick up someone at the other end of their career. If there is one position we have been excellent at scouting it's central midfield.

Surely we go for JWP. Literally not even a question in my mind that Jander is JWP regen without the FKs. Romeu is off and we need 4, then we will need further players if Charles and or Jander leave, which is sounds like at least 1 will.

I still someone's wake up at night crying since he left. Said it before, say it again. Prowsey leaving is when we lost sight of what saints represented. Not his fault he carried the team for 2 years as we spiralled from media darlings to stale bread. Anyone with ambition would want to leave seeing us go from a champions league pedigree coach to Nathan ****ing Jones.

And since when do we take footballing advice from West Ham fans ffs. Inarguably the least well rum club in the EPL in the past few years relative to budget and the graveyard of many careers.

I think the big thing is that West Ham fans are giving their opinion on him as a PL player and not a Championship player.

Also JWP is going on a free, as long as his wage demands aren't insane and he is willing it is a much easier decision, at worst he would be a decent squad option rotating with Downes, Bragg and Jander (hopefully). Charles seems likely to be off.

Re West Ham fan opinion we should always consider that they pushed for Moyes to be sacked after winning them a European trophy and keeping them stable them in the PL, how has that worked out for them.

Yeah basically my whole point, exemplified in one, of why I think that the last page of JWP is cooked according the least knowledgeable fans in England is for the birds.

He still has a year on his contract

Reading a Burnley forum and they think they could sign JWP for a cut price of £6-8m and West Ham subsidising his wages for this season. He might be fine taking a large pay cut to join us if he loves the club etc and his other options aren’t that attractive. Not sure what a big wage for him/Champ is, would’ve said around £40k but was reading about Hulls wage bill last night and some of the figures are way more than I would’ve expected.

If any of the CMs go they’ll need to be replaced, currently we have 4 on the books for next season, which is the required amount id say.

If he's willing to take a big paycut I wonder if he might go to the skates?
That has always been in the back of my mind but i think Pompey are not shopping at that level. More likely to recruit from League One and Australia.

I'd take JWP in his heartbeat as long as the wages weren't exorbhitive. He may not be the player he was, but you know he'd always put a shift in and he'd be an exemplar for kids moving up from the academy. Sub him on 60 minutes and watch the opposition sweat giving away free kicks. If we go up to the PL, he'd probably be bit part, but his experience with the club would make him a natural to work with the academy.

He's excellent for this level when fit. And he's been fit the longest time without an injury at the moment. I imagine every team in the league would take him on a free and he would improve most teams attack. Why it's really not worth faffing around with. We missed the window to just trigger the 1 year even though that wasn't really our fault. So just suck it up and sign him on a 2 year deal.

Would be a good move for him. Closer to home at a club who'll give him a decent salary and who have a good chance of making playoffs next season.

Yeah would be an excellent move for him, especially if he can get a 3 year deal out of it.

With Saints due to cop a percentage of the sale of Matty Fernandes would it be feasible for WHU to offer us JWP for free in lieu of cash?
Depending on the amount of money we would be due, if it was greater than JWP’s value then maybe get WHU to cough up the extra cash or fund JWP’s wages for a year.

If the reported figures are true (£85m for Fernandes, and we have a 15% sell on presumably of profit) then that would net saints roughly £6-7m from the deal, so yeah potentially they could just waive that and give us JWP, doubt they’d subsidise his wages though if those figures are close to accurate

Aside from his playing ability and age would we want a player back who ****ed off as soon as we went down? I appreciate there's no loyalty in football but it's bridges burnt in my book

He didn't push for a move. We chose to sell him as we needed to raise cash to rebuild. I'd have him back all day long, as long as the commercial package wasn't stretching us
