I have seen a few different articles covering Lutsharel Geertruida being a late call up to the Netherlands squad making it 12 SAFC players at the world cup. (Including an article on SAFC.com.)

..... Have I missed an announcement? ..... I was sure he was only on loan and that indications were that we were not going to make it permanent?? yet everyone is referring to him as a Sunderland player?

KLD loves the club, I think that much is obvious. If he was to sell I don’t think it would be to make a quick fortune. Maybe his thinking is that he’s taken the club as far as he can financially. This next chapter for us, cementing ourselves as a top half PL team and taking on European football will require a lot of investment. How much the owners put in themselves or how much they can attract from outside investors have no idea but I’m sure he’ll do the best thing by the club.

we did the first part of the plan by getting into the PL,

the plan moved onto getting european football,, we've done that.

the plan will get bigger and KLD said early on he wants to be here for the big stuff.

now can we move on and keep this thread for Transfer news?

It’s kind of linked In my opinion but I’ve said what I needed to …

… this was just the most appropriate thread.

Negotiations still ongoing is probably the official line.

I do think us qualifying for Europe and him being called up to the Dutch squad makes it likely he could sign permanently. Always looks happy in and around the club too, don’t take that for granted.

He’s our player until he returns from his loan on 1st July. We can trigger that option until then, and the lack of news about it suggests to me it might still be under consideration.

He was going as wild as anyone after Chelsea. He also ran and worked his ****ing bollocks off.

Didn’t look like someone who’d not want to remain one bit.

I'm of a similar mind. KLD might be in a position to financially help the club have a decent go at the PL and Europe next season, but not to try to smash them. We are riding the crest of a wave and probably in a fantastic position to attract the big-hitters of the money world. KLD doesn't seem to have a big ego and relinquishing some of his investment to turbocharge the club may be recognised as the smart move. If there is one thing we have seen with KLD is that he is very smart.

Oxford United, Wigan and York City are battling it out for Sunderland defender Zak Johnson. Johnson impressed during a loan spell at York last season helping them win promotion from the National League. #safc #ycfc #oufc #wafc

That is one thing that draws me back to him staying. He sold something to Xhaka and his wife

KLD is a business man though so we’d be naive to think the club isn’t up for sale 24/7.
And he had a kick about in the ground with Ghisolfi, Sartori and some sunderland legends - id like to think we've at least somewhat gotten under his skin.

I was watching Northern Ireland yesterday against France. I was quite impressed by Shea Charles. I've seen him a few times and I think he could make the step up and he's a homegrown player. Not sure how much he would cost though.
good player him, came through at City too so had a good footballing education, probably looking at north of £20m like

NO in demand player with a decent agent would sign a contract you describe! Data tells you nowt about future injuries mate ,fitness yes but injuries no!Unless you tell me you have first hand knowledge i think your a hindsight biased individual in this case. It worked out well for us so we should move on but I dont agree we should imbue our medical/fitness team with some sort of prophetic powers. It was all about his value curve and his wage demands nowt more!
He had suffered a very serious Achilles injury. One of the worst injuries a player can get, maybe the worst now that the ACL is treatable.

He had largely recovered, but we were involved in his treatment all the way and knew how bad it had been. Players are rarely the same after that injury. It was not our duty to inform Southampton of anything other than what a medical would reveal.

Southampton had parachute money to throw around and take a punt. No other club could have commited to Stewart in that way.

It was all about the injury.
