A win against Blackburn, unfortunate defeat against Spurs then well deserved win at QPR, anyone think we wont win on Boxing Day? A defence that will be further worked on to cut out the mistakes, a midfield starting to show options and competition, Bendtner not just scoring but being very unlucky not to get more, Sess finishing a move at last and Richardson looking better every game. Vaughan, Richardson, Larsson and Gardner, all midfield players and all looking like they could score. The transfer window one week away. A small gap but a gap all the same from the bottom 3. A possible 11th place on Boxing Day. That mid-table place by mid January looking good and a top 10 finish still very possible. None of this a certainty by any means but all very achievable. Apart from that not a lot changed over the past few weeks. Oh and just to top it, our new fitness coach was a Scottish judo champion, football not his thing, fitness is and it shows already.
If we can beat Everton, a definate bogey club for us, then I'll even start to believe in fairies and Santa again, as well as Mon as a miracle worker. Confidence was evidently sky high again tonight amongst the players and even when we went 2 2, we (in the pub) all still believed we could go again. That's 3 official games, 2 wins and a loss. I think the players will be buzzing for boxing day and so will the crowd. A 46k+ crowd full of noise and expectation will greet them next week and in answer to the question Syd, I can't bloody wait for it. Oh and yes, I think we'll win.
Nothing that has happened here in the last five years means a thing any more. When you look at Keane, Bruce and O'Neill, there's really only one manager in there, isn't there? Keane was a beginner, and Bruce a struggler who has only once ever got a top ten finish. I think we can put the past behind us, forget about bogey teams, and should go for this one. Everton is winnable. So win it!
its the confidence that allowed us to win the game last night (though it helped), but MON's substitutions worked! I have nothing against Elmo, and I actually think he gets more stick than deserved - but last night Bruce would have stuck him on and we would have gone on to lose 3-2. Not because Elmo is a bad player, just cause he wouldnt have been the right player to stick on.
It'll be tough on Monday, but I reckon we will win 2-1. (Ricco & Larsson, Cahill). Is the pre match get together happening? If not, I will be in the Isis if anyone fancy's buying me a pint - lol Bart
Do we ever beat Everton????!!! Although I am looking forward to the game on boxing day - nice little festive spirit or 2 berforehand
I'd be looking forward to it much more if we were playing Man City, we'd have more chance winning that than beating Everton. I'm gonna go for a draw and a tight affair, I'd have been delighted with 7 points from 4 games if I was offered that before the Blackburn game so it could be a merry xmas.
I really hope we beat Everton. Last 5 years ive been working with a bunch of Bluenoses, and the amount of **** i get off of them is ridiculous. Add to the fact that Cahill is our bogey player, and he's Aussie... it all adds up. I would love to just once give them the finger as I smile at them telling them payback tastes sweet. Just once. However, Everton is Everton... and Cahill loves scoring against us. He hasnt scored for a year... he's been saving himself for this very game
I think we´ll nick Boxing Day, and as it´s my first game since the derby (spew), i´ll be sick as **** if we don´t. Everton are a very good side, we all know this, and defensively they are strong, with Jagielka being superb, and IMO the most underrated player in the league in Fellaini providing the cover in front. BUT. I think that Sess is exactly the kind of player they struggle with, and would also like to see Ricco´s pace utilized to run at them from left midfield, as they are desperately under paced down the right. We need to defend high, and we need to watch Drenthe, as if he gets a run at ANY of our defenders, he will murder them with sheer pace. I like Everton, good club, good fans, cracking gaffer and history, but we are on the crest of a small, but growing wave, at home and with a lot of steel, Spurs aside, and come on, Spurs are a genuinely superb team, the amount of shots and efforts since MON took over points to a set of players who are playing with freedom and belief (over 30 attempts Blackburn and QPR), MON has me convinced already, and i eat my humble pie and admit we have made the perfect appointment. I´m going for a bold prediction of 3-1 the lads, and a head of steam to build up before we travel up the road in a few weeks. WE ARE SUNDERLAND.
First of all Syd, how can you be posting that early in the morning! I only had a couple of beers last night and slept like a log until 7.30 (late for me) I put it down to having a smile on my face as my head hit the pillow. Now Everton, I believe a certain gentleman whose name begins with a 'C' has not scored for ages! Hmmm well I wonder. Bogey teams have to change to being easy teams at some point. Now I try and play a little golf and often certain holes with certain bunkers seem magnets for my mis-hit ball for several games and then for no reason that bogey (or in my case double or triple bogey) hole becomes a par or a birdie hole. There is no rhyme or reason for it. With the arrival of MoN I get the feeling more of out bogey teams are going to become birdies. Also if Bendtner can keep that from up we only need one striker in Jan.
Everton's left side is very strong... Baines and the russian winger link up very well. If anything I am worried about O'Shea dealing with this threat... Drenthe needs to be shut down aswell. Anyone remember when we were trying to sign him? Before he went to Real?
You'll win against Everton. They struggle to score and you defend very well. It's pretty much written on the wall.
I am getting myself into a nasty routine, up very early so tired during day, drop ff to catch up on sleep so cant sleep at night. Christmas day should solve it because I will b out so cant do the afternoon nap, good sleep then football on the Monday. Well thats the plan
Yeah, when Keano was manager. Could have all been bollocks on the old 606, but there were some very strong rumors going around that we were in for him.
No your right marra, i think we had a bid in BEFORE the u21s tourney, he had a great one, and then Madrid dived in. I think that was it like.
