That feels a shade optimistic as we’ll surely have some departures. So would rely on some very good recruitment

In theory we might be better at goalkeeper because we surely need a new second choice and our options last season were a big step down
I didn't say the "same" squad - just think even with departures and looking at the last two windows we've got a good shout of finishing the window with a better squad.

On the open question - I'd keep THB. Jander is gone this summer and we want to get as much as we can for him and I I think Leo is probably the easiest to replace of those three with someone of comparable quality (if not comparable fan interaction / personality).

Go on then, I give you a magic wand with the ability to keep just one of them. Who are you going for?

Heart says THB just because it'd wind every other ****er up.

Head says Jander. I think he's got potential to genuinely be one of the best in Europe in a couple of years and we'd make £50 million +

Right now I’d probably say keep Leo as without him I think we’d be very toothless. Jander has the potential to be the best of the lot but he was hit and miss in the first half of the season and only really performed at a top level consistently in the last 10 games or so. Plus with Charles and Downes i think we have cover for him to leave (obviously we’d sign someone else as well)

But yeah think it will be irrelevant as can’t see any of them staying if there is genuine interest. I do believe that if we get recruitment right (like last summer) then we should have a decent shot at the playoffs

Bragg as well, he needs to play more for his development as well. In terms of depth of position, Jander is the one I would sell as well. We'd also get the most money for him due to his age and potential.

Laugh if you like, but Peretz signing on a permanent has really given me hope that we'll win the whole thing.

I know it's asking for the moon and the stars but if we keep 2 out of the 3 I'll genuinely believe HMS piss the league is a go. It's the hope that kills.

The mood swings of a football fan

Right now I can’t see anyway we finish above any of the relegated sides, especially with a -4 as well, but it’s very early days in the transfer window

With my usual pessimistic head on I can see us having a very similar season to Sheff Utd last season after they made the playoffs the season before, and in their last year of parachute payments.

Don't think Burnley are that good TBH.

I hope you are right
Inclined to agree on THB. I guess the game assumes the one that stays actually wants to an actually makes Jander an option

Hopefully our recruitment is more Jander, Peretz, Larin and Scienza and less Downs. Which is sort of a daft and obvious thing to say !

Leicester didn't do very well tbf.

They did the first time they came down with us and were having financial problems.

First year parachute clubs can roll the dice, West Ham will lose some players like all relegated sides do but they were still a squad that got 39 points in the PL last season compared to the usual ****e that comes down. Once they’ve sold off 10 or so their squad will still look very strong for the Champ and that’s before they sign anyone

Thought you meant this season. I agree about West Ham, my favourites for the league.

I think there are a few of WH's players who won't want to be in the championship next season at all and they'll need to sell too.

All the demoted sides should be around the top of the table come the end of the season but it's not a given that they'll take 1st and 2nd.

Yeah they will be most peoples id expect. The main question mark for me is actually Nuno. Traditionally a very defensive minded manager which is not what West Ham will need this season.

But anyway the best time of the footballing calendar is coming up so can sit back and enjoy and watch it all unfold

20/21 was the last time the top two was made up of two relegated clubs for what it's worth.

Yeah - I just don't agree with the narrative that the relegated clubs will own the league as they can out muscle everyone financially - they still have to play well and win and at least one of them will take a bit of hit squad-wise this summer.

Like Leicester did? They’ll just ignore it for a season in the hope they go straight back up
I'm not an accountant but I think West Ham's position is worse than Leicester's in that it seems to go beyond not complying with the football regulations and into the territory where they have an actual cash flow problem. They have £200m of transfer debt, owe £100m borrowed against future transfer income, have taken out a short term loan of £120m secured against future Premier League TV rights money and have a £40m overdraft with Barclays due to be repaid in July. And this is a club that made a £100m loss while they were in the Premier League.

All that and a tax payer funded stadium? My heart bleeds
