Interesting, 10 years of Pep and they couldn't overtake the Man Utd fanbase, plastics have overwhelmingly stuck with Utd. My daughter worked at the National Football Museum when a student there and if Utd were at home it was full of tourists and quiet when City were at home. You must need much longer to shake glory hunters out the woodwork, same with L##ds.
Does that mean that they're not plastics or glory hunters if they've stuck with them for a decade with relative little success?

Both Chelsea and Man City have somewhat low international fan numbers considering their successes, Liverpool and Man utd are huge. Someone told me that Leeds have a larger international fan membership than Chelsea. That can't be for glory? Think its more than just trophies that attracts fans to clubs - sort of the vibe.

Clubs success in the 80s and 90s is a big reason for foreign fans

Aswell as i imagine
Leeds
Liverpool
Man u
Arsenal

Were probably on tv the most abroad
Back when every single game wasnt broadcast

I know norway has a big liverpool n leeds fanbase for example

I think Yu would have been an ok squad filler if it was a kinda fine, we'll take him off your hands deal. He's not really done enough at Bristol or at us to warrent a significant wage rise and I would imagine Bristol City would try to squeeze us and so if thats a case, were in a position to attract better talent imo.

I think there's such a thing as a "loyal armchair supporter"

Could be any one of us on this forum, if for some reason we can't make it to live games now, or in the future...

Man u, Liverpool and Leeds mainly - big supporters clubs that travel as a group and have done for over forty years now - a lot (most) are much better fans than me. Wolves and West brom with those in their 70s/80s, due to English football being on TV, before Norwegian football was televised. Arsenal are much more popular in sweden, despite having a Norwegian captain and it's just young kids who support man city, because of Braut Håland.

My wife is on a Scandinavian hull city group on Facebook and there's about 30 of us here in Norway, but only one fella and his wife who i know of on my side of the country up in Sogn. This will probably go up in numbers this season. Good bunch of lads and ladies and I went to one of their pub events in Oslo for a game back in 2021(?). One member goes to Hull/East Yorkshire/North Yorkshire/Northumberland every summer with his family. You also get ppl who adopt obscure teams like Tranmere and go over for games.

I don't see them as plastics or glory hunters, just new 'tribes'.

It could be but it wasn't long a go where Leeds where getting average crowds of 21)22,000

Plastic is non-biodegradable so they are plastic supporters for life, maybe living on past football glories, either way a weak association and quietly muttering to themselves in disbelief every time we win at Wembley?

Danes settled in significant numbers in East Yorkshire during the 10th century and their legacy is still apparent today in place names. Norwegians or Norse-Gaels from Ireland tended to settle in the North West, especially in the Wirral and Amounderness.

City should have more Danish supporters like Liverpool has Norwegians.

Was that in League 1?

The opponent does matter... i'm more likely to make the 9 hour round trip from South Wales to see us play Man City than I am to see us play Doncaster Rovers

Although, interesting to know that Leeds United at a low ebb is no better attended than us when we're bottom-half Championship

Ye, I saw that Ric_celtic used the word cleg for horsefly on another thread. That's what they're called here and in northern Ireland. Never heard it used in England, so obviously word come from vikings originally and spread.
