The SPL have recently announced that it's clubs will be able to have safe standing areas within their grounds, would anyone like to see these within grounds in england? For me i do like to stand at football matches, especially away games and big games such as the derby on sunday, when surprisingly the whole of the Fratton End was allowed to stand without being told to sit down like usual. I would personally like to see these areas introduced into our game, but understand that it would be a backwards step and that this is not going to happen as we are bound by law unlike scotland. What i think clubs should be doing is promoting more family areas for people who do not want to stand or sing so the people that do can also enjoy a match without being told to be quiet or to sit down.
Quite simply....YES. bring back the terraces we grew up with, with the anti crush rails there should be no problem. H&S has moved on since seating was brought in, its time to bring the game forward.....by going backwards a bit
What about the back row at the Cinema pm ? - you didn't make any mention of that did you ?.............
You can't go wrong with cinema seats these days, but the ones at the old Granada, in Chichester, were a bit tight.
The seats at St Mary's are pretty tight, which is why I take my son to the football. I can borrow a bit of his space. The worst time is when you are sat next to some great lump (cue some tiresome Lambert quip) who disproves that old adage that you "can't be in two places at once". WRT standing, I am probably in a minority, but Its not for me as I am of average height at best amongst my peers, but definitely shorter that most of the younger lads who are invariably in front of me. When they stand, I can miss small bits of the match, like say, someone scoring a goal. My son sees even less than than that.
Cramped seats can make the old muscles tighten up - I also seem to remember that the back seat of the cinema could make me stiff too.
Fodder, as soon as things get exciting, everyone stands up anyway....well they do at Fratton. It's an old chestnut but i'd love to see the terraces back for those who wish to stand. I'm lucky as I've got the best of both worlds- back row of North Lower, and I would'nt change it for the world.
Thats why clubs should do more to promote family sections, so you can take your son and he can see the whole game without someone standing up in front, whilst people who do want to stand can also enjoy the game the way they want to without being told to sit down.
That's where i used to sit when my dad took me when i was younger, when it was all terraced i used to sit on the blue barriers so i could see the game. Unfortunately when i came to buy my first season ticket i bought into the whole Fratton End being the best stand, with the best atmosphere etc. After the last few seasons i'm thinking about moving back to the North Lower, Fratton End isnt all its cracked up to be and the view isnt the best either!
