Apart from Jim White, this is a decent discussion about the punishment dealt out.
I’m surprised that Simon Jordan thinks it’s disproportionate, as he’s been cheerleading for Gibson all week. The sporting financial and legal expert, Borson is also on the disproportionate side of the argument.

It does seem that a lot of footy people, particularly players find it harsh. Jordan’s a funny one, seems to shift about on it a bit.

Particularly bad light on Saints from a compliance/safeguarding perspective from this part of The Guardian's latest piece:

Eckert, who is battling to hold on to his job amid a Football Association investigation into the conduct of individuals at the club, has argued he did not realise what he did was against the EFL’s statutes.

Southampton gave a detailed briefing in pre-season to Eckert’s predecessor, Will Still, explaining the competition’s rules. They did not do the same for Eckert after he replaced Still in early November.

How and why is a club secretary, compliance manager or similarly appointed admin staff not taking him through the requirements of the role and the competitions in which he will be competing?

Considering the EFL old farts are looking into Southampton FC, I dare say Leicester will be thinking; do you know what we might be staying in the championship next season.

I said this the other day that if Tonda didn't know it reflects even more poorly on the club.

I don't believe he didn't know though. He first worked in England almost 6 years ago and I've no doubt he'd have looked up to Biesla.

This is exactly my opinion. I am sure that the executive were aware this was going on. As Mingcoln stated , we have not hit rock bottom yet. I think other clubs will be reviewing their cctv now that it is apparent that the spying was far more coordinated.

I was wondering if the FA can apply further penalties after the EFL judgement ?

I am sure that a degree of cheating goes on in many clubs but i can see our case being used as the opportunity to stamp it out. I am far from convinced that we have heard the last of this. We will see more clubs pushing for points deductions.

Yeah I’m expecting to be starting the season with a Luton type points deduction. Will need a similar points total to this season just to stay up

Nah let them crack on. No real change in my opinion on Boro apart from their fans being whingebags for so called 'tough northerners'.
Boro fans are just like most other fans. Some are dickheads, some are very nice people, some are a bit moody. I play football with them every week. One guy is a real whinger, who annoys me and most other Boro fans. The rest are reasonable blokes who enjoy a bit of banter but know how far to go. Can only judge the ones I know. As to my daughter, son in law and grandsons, my lips are sealed.

What other forms of cheating do you think we've done, Ian? We could have broken the EFL spying rules in every game we played by spying past the 72hr mark, but it wouldn't matter if we've done it 5 times or 50 times.

You're acting like we've been match fixing or the starting eleven were using PEDs freely all season (this would actually call for serious punishment).

You can't argue that the reason you didn't gain promotion over a 46 game season was because of an intern by a tree. What if we did it 71hrs before a game every time, an hour earlier and it's suddenly completely legal?

There are far, far too many mitigating factors.

I have a nasty suspicion that it transpired we have spied more than 3 times. This is what worries me. I can envisage further points seductions for such infringements.

My other worry is that Parsons and Spors were aware what was going on and that we have only fessed up to a proportion of the spying. What if it is proved that they were not honest with the EFL panel this week ?

As i said , i am not confident that everything has been disclosed.
