If only they’d had 46 games to view opposition free kicks. I suppose it’s possible they could have come up with a new way of kicking the ball into the penalty box that no one has thought of

I can see the point in banning Southampton.
Sets an important precedent.
Next season it can be used to justify a 2 division relegation for Leeds for the team bus going 31 in a 30 zone.

Yep, Corners in particular, free kicks. Plus you get to see who's playing where in what formation and any potential tweaks. That's assuming you have a few hours that coincide with them doing all that
No wonder the poor lad had to go and get a Latte... in a cash free resort... with his personal credit card.
So, if Boro thought Southampton had a particular weakness with, let’s say, corners to the near post, they wouldn’t practice exploiting it? Equally, if Southampton knew that Boro were looking at that, they would tell everyone to just go out and defend as normal? Seems a bit excessive employing coaches and analysts when you break it down
You not think over 46 games they might not have noticed that and practiced for it? What new do you expect them to come up with in a few days?
Ok, I’ll try again. If a player is taking a corner (or free kick), one arm in the air, two arms in the air, touching your shoulders, hands on hips, pulling up your left sock, whatever, offer multiple ways of silently communicating with your teammates which would be an advantage but only if the opposition don’t know what they mean. If there is so little to be gained, why would Southampton do it and why would Hull be so bothered about the short notice over who they face?
A quick rub down with the Daily Mail, a lap of the pitch and a bit of shooting practice are things of the past.

And that’s the golden question, why bother when (and I don’t want to over emphasise this) when they’ve played 46 games you’ve been watching them?
For me this is just a way of Boro trying to get a second (or third considering they were in the automatic positions, ****ed it up and finished 5th). If we’re being so serious about this then why aren’t any of the other teams benefiting?
I'm watching Villa vs Freiburg in the Fairs Cup final.
Villa's 1st goal was a short corner, everyone in the box pushed in to the 6 yard box dragging defenders with them. Ball was floated to the edge of the area at the back post and Tielemans was in acres of space to volley home.
Clearly practiced on the training ground. If Freiburg had spied on Villa's training sessions then they would have known the movement and acted accordingly.

I completely understand people thinking southampton likely didn’t learn much. I struggle to understand how people don’t get that Southampton obviously think there’s something to gain or they wouldn’t do it. And in any case by doing it they are breaking the rules and cheating.
Anyway no one’s changing their minds on this… like every other topic.

Ok, I’ll take your point / question on board and don’t actually disagree but your original question was nothing to do with the other teams it was what would someone gain from spying that they wouldn’t know after a 46 game season.

I remember last season when we went up and they went down a good few of their fans bragging how their players were so much better than ours and an enjoy your season attitude. None will be smiling now!!

Seeing as we’ve been making the same argument here we must be of similar density. But for the avoidance of doubt, my Manuel comment wasn’t directed AT you, it was a suggestion for you to use as your next ‘ok I’ll try another way’
