If we get kicked out , my preference would be for Hull to be given a bye and go straight up .

Second would be Wrexham to play Boro in 2 leg semi final .

No way should Boro get an automatic place in the final .
Yeah you'd surely think that, if Boro are basing their argument on whistleblowers and evidence that we've been doing it over the season, then our play-off position is void as a whole and Wrexham are entitled to a go at the play-offs.

Whole things a mess, put us out of our misery

The way I see it, the EFL are assuming one way or the other there's going to be an appeal. The statement is deliberately ambigious. It is literally to cover their arses.
All the statements from the EFL and ourselves have been deliberately left ambiguous. This is standard fare when the potential for legal action is at play. Play it professionally until you have enough evidence to come to a conclusion and declare it publicly.

The only ones in this that have lost their way with emotions and potentially defamatory accusations are Boro.

True. If it goes our way (ie not removed from game), Boro may appear and try to get an injunction to stop the game going ahead, if they remove us, we'll do the same.

Or, just the latter

The main interesting thing to come out of it is that the Mirror were wrong in saying the hearing is tomorrow and that they'll confirm when it is.

Imagine the headloss from Boro when we're still not kicked out...

I think that there could be a points deduction for every unfringement. I would also think that expulsion from the league may be a possibility if we are found to have spied throughout the season.

But if there is more than one case of it, it will take longer than Tuesday to put all those charges and us to answer them

It depends if Boro are a party in the hearing doesn’t it? If it’s an independent panel then it’s EFL v Saints so if the punishment is something like a big fine the EFL might be happy with that and not bother appealing and Boro can’t do anything about it apart from moan to the EFL to appeal it.

Think this all hinges on whether they have evidence we’ve done it in other games as well

Reading the statement doesn't really change my viewpoint. All they say is that the outcome of the process (ie appeal needs) could impact the scheduling of the final - it doesn't imply any change of teams in it (and I wouldn't expect it to as that would hold an element of pre-decision bias) and to remind purchasers that there are certain terms to the ticket sale that would be in effect in the event of a reschedule.

Yeah, I don't think you can read too much into this at all. I would say the following:

1. The EFL could just postpone the final now (you could argue that would theoretically be the fairest thing for all parties) but there are probably all sorts of practical reasons (stadium availability, the required police presence, road closures etc etc) why they don't want to do that unless they absolutely have to.
2. The EFL don't want to rule any punishment in or out or say anything of much substance because the panel deciding the punishment is independent and they don't want to be seen to be interfering in the process.
3. The hearing isn't going to take place until next Tuesday and there's no guarantee the decision will be published that day. The EFL can see that it's not practical to start selling tickets so close to the game. At the same time, if we are kicked out they don't want a load of fans claiming for travel or hotel costs.

So basically they're covering their arses.

My position remains the same in that if they DO decide to kick us out, the appropriate follow-up to that decision would be to promote Hull automatically, not to reinstate Boro.
