Generalizations have been thrown around on here about the terms used & what levels of insult fictional black people would feel if it was said to them. The same liberal ideals that have outlawed racism, sexism, sectarianism (quite rightly) in our society also has as a fundamental concept that we are a global community, one species. And yet some are dismissing other cultures views on these issues saying tough, not like that here. Take the article above: an ex Uruguayan player who is black says Evra is wrong to be insulted & that we can not translate on a literal sense. Are we saying that the views of a black person in this country are more important than those in another? And if so is that based purely on the fact they come from another country? I feel paradoxes starting to form here. Are we saying that the western black view of the world is the only correct black view & that all other dark skinned people should change their views & culture to yet again conform to a western idea? A few weeks ago I posted that all these words should be outlawed including the use within the victim community so there are no grey areas for a racist to hide in but now I wonder if that idea is based on an arrogance that our interpretation is colored by specific historical bias that other multicultural societies simply don't share. Who us right?
