VAR again means they have to re-write the rules for an entire sport which was once simple and is 99.999% played without VAR. There’s always been some grappling at corners but then VAR would find a grapple it considered a bit much so you’d get a penalty and then an argument for a penalty at just about every corner. So the rule is tweaked to say you can basically do what you want if you aren’t near the ball. Except then Mavropanos would have been near the ball if he wasn’t fouled at least as obviously as Raya was. So you basically get a subjective decision to make to decide if another subjective decision needs looking at. Except it’s subjective whether you should be looking at the first subjective decision at all.

Again, scrap it. It’s ****.

To me it was a definite foul on Raya..no doubt!
But I think the argument maybe what came first . The Arsenal players wrestling the Spam players out of the way...or the foul on the GK.
If the Arsenal fouls came first ( which they did). ..it is either a free kick ( if the ref blows up) or the goal stands.

( but it now seems it is in the rules that you can wrestle people out the way !!!)

Every set-piece is now like an all-in wrestling match. It's just getting worse as more and more players get away with it. Arsenal are masters of those sort of dirty tricks, one of the reasons they get a lot of stick for their style of play. They got out of jail yesterday...

Where does fouling start and stop, two arse players were wrestling spam players prior so when is the call being made. Raya flapping like an injured sparrow, the arse got away with one for me. However don’t want mancheater citeh to win anything.
This wrestling stuff in the box is way out of hand but if the refs do little about it, then it will continue.
It’s in the hands of the referees to curb it. So deal with it.
It is nearly always 50/50 with both sides culpable for pushing and shoving one another for opportunity.
I do think it’s different when it’s a keeper inhibited from being able catch the ball in his area though.

Arsenal are definitely the masters of the dark arts. I've seen Ben White pinching opposition players backsides at corners to put them off. If I've seen it why hasn't VAR?

I remember someone saying on here saying that if we had had Patterson in goal...we would be in the playoffs .

So much better than what we got.

Seems to be as butterfingered as Walsh.

Neither Millwall or Hull are any better than we were when we turned up for a match this season. I suppose that makes it worse

I can't agree we were as good as Millwall they are a very difficult team to beat and had the measure of us in both games.
On the other hand we had the measure of Hull this season, who won tonight and looked decent.

I enjoyed the game end to end stuff.

Apparently they are looking at mobile phone records to ascertain whether Southampton have spied at other teams this season, if they have they could be well in the brown stuff...
