Your take on the situation is just way over the top imo. There seems to be a very worrying trend in this country where people are only too willing to be offended on other people's behalf! If Evra was so insensed by what Suarez had said why didn't he report the matter to the Police? This has been blown up out of all proportion and where does it end? I referee parks football and there is a fair amount of industrial insulting language used during a football match. There are plenty of black players that use the "N" word directed at other black players! What do we do now? Do we ban black people as well as white people for using this particular word? In the society we are living in now there seems to be one code for one culture and a different one for another. The use of this word is abhorent but why is it accepted that one culture can use it without censor? The FA action has now sent a precident and the ramifications for the game will be huge. The John Terry episode will be very interesting!
i am not offended in any way by this particular offence. it was not said to me nor do i make racist comments myself. it has literally nothing to do with me. however, i love football and do not like racism, therefore i am commenting on it. he was found guilty of racist abuse, whether he knew what he was doing or not, therefore he should be punished for doing so and at the very least told by his club not to do it as its not acceptable in this country. is that too much to ask? i for one think our fa are in the main absolutely bloody useless but on this subject i am thankful that our fa are actually trying to get rid of this sort of thing. everyone is always so furious (quite rightly) when fans of other nations make certain chants towards england players and then fifa fine them 50 pence and a bag of sweets, they just don't seem to take it seriously, so when it happens in our country at least we try and stamp it out! if you think trying to cut out racist comments in football is over the top i'd suggest you are in a minority, and its sad that our nation seems to be in a minority when it comes to trying to rid it from the game. lets face it, we've come a long way in a short space of time. why not keep going?
He may have been found guilty Supers but the evidence was flimsy and based on heresay. If this was a proper court of law the Judge would have thrown the case out for lack of solid evidence! Justice is the loser in all of this and it seems that just because Evra cries Racism the FA just accept his word for it.
with all due respect, you don't know what evidence there was! neither do i, and apparently, neither do liverpool! they are basing their judgement on the word of suarez ffs! the fa are due to release ALL the evidence and i have to say, there is absolutely NO CHANCE you would get an 8-game ban and £40k fine if it was based on flimsy evidence! what would be the point? it would be dismissed on appeal...
slightly surprised by your stance warky but each to their own. right, i'm off to watch some football without the stress from last night. brilliant game but my heart rate was becoming a worry! hopefully nobody will overtake my boys and we'll be top half at christmas merry christmas
I would like to think that the FA have had access to video footage before reaching their decision. Suarez has admitted to using a phrase that in this country does amount to a racist comment, approx 10 times.! For me from all that I have seen Suarez clearly is trying to provoke Evra, as apposed to trying to be funny.! I am also dissapointed with Liverpool warming up tonight in Suarez / 7 T-shirts, Suarez has been found guilty by the FA of using racist language, does this stance by Liverpool stick 2 fingers up at the FA & more worringly could be taken that they do not take the charge seriously, bad judgement on their part for me..
I agree with that, doesn't show Liverpool in a great light to the rest of the country, I'm all for backing their players etc. but he has admitted some liability although protests his naivety. I still think Liverpool could have been a little more sensitive to the situation and they have already released a statement so this extra 'show' could well seen as an error of judgement this evening that in the cold light of day they may regret. Two fingers up to Evra and United may/probably will be construed as two fingers to the FA and the rile up a few football supporters
a good article on the issue: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...why-didnt-he-know-it-would-cause-a-storm.html
Now that the FA have set a precident let us hope that John Terry is stripped of the England Captaincy, Banned for at least 8 games and doesn't play for Englasnd in next years Euro championships. Then again we do have an FA that is incapable of being consistent so expect a slap on the wrist!
