We didn’t buckle under pressure against Ipswich, we just came up against a very good side. As for Pompey, derby’s you can safely ignore. And Bristol City, well, you can’t win every game; not even Man City or Arsenal can do that.

The last two cup games showed how well this side have responded to the big occasion.

The caveat with the cup games is that we were massive underdogs and there was no pressure on us, even if we did go into them to win them, there were no expectations.
These games against Boro coming up, there is massive pressure to win them, and a whole lot of expectation too. Not saying they'll buckle under it, or that they won't perform. Just it's a different circumstance to the cup.
One thing Martin did get right here was the play-offs. They require a certain level of pragmatism. We may not be going into the first leg trying to get a draw, but a draw is a decent result and we need to not throw away the tie by throwing too much forward in search of the win. That would play right into Boros hands.

And we also didn’t lose to the already promoted sides this season.
Let’s be honest, play offs can be a bit of a lottery. Last season Sunderland were battered in the semi’s by Coventry and the final by Sheffield United, but still got promoted. They showed grit and determination by staying in those games.
I think if we show the same attitude, we will be the favourites to get promotion as we do have a better squad than the other 3 teams.
There will be difficult moments over the next 2 games, and it will come down to the team that takes their chances. Wouldn’t be surprised if Tuesday goes to Extra Time.
