Just in the process of cleaning and resurrecting my old acoustic guitar (Epiphone 'Jumbo') and debating re strings.

I favour medium gauge....anyone recommend a particular make, and why? (I'm leaning towards Martin at the mo).

Check out the ones that Gordon Giltrap used. Perfect sound.

Steve Howe of Yes fame....check his acoustic ones out.

I would always go for Gibson strings 10-42 gauge.

I play D'Addario 10's on both my acoustics. Wouldnt play anything else! Great sound, good lifespan and I've probably snapped 1 string in 9 years gigging!

The Martin's are '80/20 Bronze' (.013 - .056). Not tried Gibson or D'Addario but a mate of mine swears by D'Addario, too. I'll check them out with him but, ideally, want to get them before Xmas.

Thanks for the help, fellas. <ok>

I've used Ernie Ball before, only on an old Telecaster, but they were good electric strings. Not tried his/their acoustic ones though....

I use Martins the ones that come in a red box. They have a lovely shimmering spakle to them. Also you can get them for less than a tenner for three sets on i think Amazon !

D'Addario phosphor bronze, imho, and softer tone if you want that.

I've used them before - they're 'Light' gauge; but this time I've gone for the blue = Medium.

I don't much care for the Martins. In fact I use the D'Addario phosphor bronze on my Martin.

Any one ever tried D'addario Gypsy Jazz strings ? They make your'e axe sound like a harpsichord or something ! Then they settle down and are great fun to play. They last ages !
