I just wish he would man up and actually go in for 50/50 tackles. That's what pisses me of the most.

Colo bossed that season, that's why he made the team of the year and had his own chant by Christmas. Tash, you're mental.

This is the bit that gets me about him, fair enough he cant just do the same thing everytime but he should be lookin to do it alot more often than he does at present. At times it looks like he just doesn't know what to do with the ball at his feet, he'll get to half-way/just over and stopwhilehe decides whether to try and beat the full back or drop it back/inside givin the opposition time to get back and cover. With his pace he should be one of our biggest threats on the break but ,ore often than not is the cause of them breakin down.

That said he'll probably play a blinder tonight, usually happens after i've criticised a player! <fingerscrossed>

I reckon Obertan is very much like Jonas was in his first season for us - an unrefined player but one with undoubted talent.
I think he does deserve the playing time he's getting, he was fantastic against Man U and Stoke (I think it was Stoke anyway), though we could do to sign another winger in January, perhaps on loan, just to give him some competition.

Jonas still has little end product though. And he has alwas worked hard. Obertan doesn't work hard, has no end product, rarely beats his man and doesn't win many free kicks. Jonas ticks all those boxes other than end product. And even then it's better than Obertan's.

You must be watching a different player to me, whenever I see Obertan he's chasing every ball that's played, and he does have a genuinely decent cross on him, it just needs to come out more often.

Obertan actually has a nice cross in him when he floats it rather than drills it, against Man U and Swansea he put some nice crosses in but every other game he looks scared to, just like Routledge.

Yeah i'm not sure who you're watching because it can't be Obertan! He gives Simmo such little defensive cover. Jonas acts as a LWB at times, Obertan does nothing for Simmo. He might chase a ball when it's a race, but he is scared to tackle and get stuck in. As for his crossing, he can put in a decent ball, but 9 out of 10 are awful.

Ober puts in a decent cross first time (see Ba's goal vs Stoke). He can't cross when he has time to think about it and 'pick the ball' as a comm would say. He's a great player on the break, not during a sustained attack. If the defence plays a high line and we lob the ball over the top for him to run onto, he's class (vs Stoke was his best game, and that's what he was continually doing)

Actually bang on. All his best performances came when we were counter attacking, his first instinct is good but when we are more dominant in a game he overthinks it as he has more time on the ball.

These things are things that improve with gametime, that's the thing.

I'm not defending Obertan but half of the time he has the ball and there's no movement, noone overlapping on the wing and no one calling for the ball . The other half of the time there's a total lack of communication with his team-mates and as a result his passes go astray ...

Interesting Holystone chose to highlight the negative bit about Obertan in this Sky report

Failed to mention the fact Pardew thinks we can still make Europe.

I'll be patient with him. I always believe you need to be.

But I can't sit here and lie and say I think the lad has a good footballing brain, or we can give him a good footballing brain. I think neither is true.

He'll get my support because he wears black and white. If he proves me wrong, great, but I don't see him ever becoming top class.

I just remember him coming on for Bordeaux at the age of 18.
Looked an absolute jem. Was sadenned when he signed for Man United though as we knew he'd get no playing time whatsoever.
My guess is that Ferguy didn't have time to play him in order for him to improve. And I'm happy to see him play for us as he has poor games, but is never absolutely terrible for us.

Maybe we should play him up front and turn him into a quick striker?

From the streams and matches on TV I've watched he seems to have good first instincts as Smudger and someone else said above but I also wonder whether there is much support when he does take on the full back? Definitely looked like there was often just Ba and Best in the box against Swansea who were marked by about 6 defenders which is why he was turning back a lot. Don't know if anyone who is lucky enough to be able to watch the games live can confirm this?

He needs to just do what ever he's thinking of doing faster rather than be undecided for too long.

Does Pardew actually believe this tripe or is he just not a very good public speaker? (ive asked this question before somewhere?)

I mean my god. How about we try and have Obertan getting the basics sorted of at least trying to go on the outside before we start labelling it 'one-dimensional'.

If anything his constance need to cut inside, for some reason, is totally one-dimensional.

How about he shakes it up a bit Pards by doing what a basic winger should do.

Complete utter tripe from Pards again. He should be banned from Press conferences.

    F*ck me.

But Bano, you should love Obertan, he's good on FM!
