I was basing my one third off on their average attendance of 30k+ in the prem - so yes 20's, that's still a massive hit.
Now consider that to the likes of Sunderland who broke the record with over 46k lol. Sunderland hold the record for the top three highest attendances ever in L1, then funnily enough Leeds against my lot.
The record for the highest attendance at a single League One (third-tier) match is
46,039, set on 26 December 2018 at the
Stadium of Light.
Historic Attendances
While modern records are frequently broken, the top of the list is dominated by major clubs that found themselves in the third tier:
- 46,039: Sunderland vs Bradford City (26 Dec 2018) – The current all-time record for a third-tier league game.
- 44,742: Sunderland vs Sheffield Wednesday (May 2022) – A high-stakes promotion clash.
- 41,129: Sunderland vs Portsmouth (April 2019) – One of several crowds over 40,000 at the Stadium of Light that season.
- 38,256: Leeds United vs Gillingham (May 2008) – The previous long-standing record set at Elland Road.
Anyway my work is done now.
