Refs "managing" games is always a recipe for disaster as it usually translates to not carding anyone for the first 10-15 minutes no matter how card-worthy the challenge etc is, then start carding players who are ****ed off at being fouled with impunity for 10-15 minutes, and the game spirals

In our case that Chelsea match ten years ago is an obvious example, as Clattenburg had lost control within five minutes (and that’sbefore bringing up his later comments, which make his performance all the more sudpect) while the 2010 World Cup final was one the whole world saw - and the bloke who ****ed it is in charge of PGMOL, so of course standards are going be be lower than an armadillo's ballsack

Going back to 2010 and 2016 is some real mental gymnastics <laugh>

genuinely shocked that fans are still hoping we'll stay up.
I'm still pissed we sacked Ange instead of giving him a chance to take the team forward...but once they sacked him it was obvious by December that Frank was even worse but instead of sorting out a serious long term replacement we allowed him to sell last seasons top scorer and bring in that munter Gallagher.

We believed we wouldnt go down so spent none of the £100m that the new board said was available, told fans ticket prices will be frozen and that Toon will be downgraded to a cat B game for next season!

Then replace Thomas Frankly the Absurd with Tenpole one point Tuder who'd never managed in England. 44 days later we bring in the Greenwood Fan Club Chairman.

We have bought minging munter after minging munter for the last 7 years. We have brought no one through our academy and pretty much have been left with a team who, at best are met but are more often than not ****.

Everything happening to the club is of it's own making.

I'm confused as to what some fans want tbh.
Last seasons euro league Cup win was belittled by a chunk of our own fans as being not all that an achievement after years of complaining that we prioritise top 4 -6 place finishes over trophies...many also demand Ange be sacked after winning the final.

So imho some of the fans deserve this insipid ****e season too.

I've been convinced we were down after the West Ham loss and tbh am looking forward to being able to afford to go to many more games next season

Why should us not being very good mean refs get away with the awful performances and ridiculous decisions we get against us week in week out.

Because ultimately they aren’t the reason Spurs are going down.

Genuine question, do you think Spurs lost today because of the ref?

People deal with their disappointment in many ways, one of which is to diss the players and distance themselves from the team. Another is to be resigned to relegation before it happens so that it's not such a blow.
My way is to take it one game at a time, that does lead to many let downs this season and another one today. I'll watch the Masters and move on to Brighton next week.

A win next week changes everything. Just hard to see where the next win comes from as the team looks so devoid of everything needed to survive.

There was a lot of positivity after the Liverpool draw so a win next week would probably give hope to some.

I think it was a pretty even game decided by a fluke goal. 1st goal always going to be important in a scrappy game like that and we’re not currently in a place to respond to those set backs.

I think games can change based on decisions though so the penalty not overturned then we have a great chance to go 1 up which rarely happens. players booked when they should be can totally change the complexion of how they play and brobbey could easily have been off by half time.

So in answer to your question, the ref isn’t the reason we lost today but their decisions play a massive part in how a game can change and if we actually had some go our way then maybe we’d have a few more points.

Not at all. We are very, very poor. Pathetically so.
But...and I'm not heading down a conspiratorial rabbit hole here...the lack of consistency by officials (including VAR) hasn't helped and key decisions do impact games.
Cases in point today would be the penalty being overturned by VAR despite the sliding tackle being a foul on Muani and the failure to card Brobbey for the clear push on Romero leading to quite serious injury, where VAR did not get involved.

On the plus side, I thought Kinsky had a decent game, looked calm and assured and actually thought we looked relatively secure at the back as a result.

As for the rest of them.... <doh>

I'm watching the Chav game and then after a spot of dinner I'll settle in for the golf.

It's all washing over me at the moment but like @remembercolinlee I've been resigned to it for a while. Yes, I'm taking a battering up here, and no doubt will throughout the summer but my shoulders are broad....

Even if the fans agreed 100% with all those decisions at the time, they're still not the ones being paid millions to make the right decisions. They don't deserve us going down. Especially when the media were telling us how smart our board are, how brilliant Frank is and and how Ange was responsible for all our injuries and everything else last season. We've all been duped by thinking the media know what they're talking about at some point in our lives.

I'm at the point where I won't take any solace in the fact that we'll have a clear out of those responsible if we go down. Firstly because the Lewis kids have even worse instincts than Levy and if we sell we'll be making peace with whatever despot or Yank moneyball prick buys us. Secondly because Vinai and Lange don't deserve the civility of being sacked. I want them in stocks on the high road until the end of their contracts.

Another Spurs match devoid of quality, was the Sunderland goal lucky ...Yes, were Sunderland better than us ...also yes, not much but they played better football and over 90s minutes I thought they shaded it..

Positives - Kinsky his best match since his debut (but thats not hard), but we looked secure and his handling and kicking were both good.
Udogie - Probably our best player today defended well and gave us decent width.

The negatives too many to go through in detail, but in short 1.The front 3 were toothless and 2.the midfield 3 lacked creativity which partly causes point 1..

The first 3 subs were wrong Xavi not Palinha was needed to try and change the lack of creativity, Tel has a great first touch and a very little football intelligence.

I can't see where a win is coming from, probably need at least 3 from the 6 matches remaining we will be lucky to get another point at this rate.

Don't know who skys co commentator was but I guess he was wearing a Sunderland shirt - he was dreadful.

Nothing the referee done would have changed the outcome of that game.

Such a weak and boring argument

Just accept the team is ****
The team is shiete, but referees are contributing towards us being shiete, it`s impossible to gain any confidence or momentum when every single decision goes against you. Our already hesitant and faltering players are going into games handicapped by awful / incompetent / corrupt officiating, which just amplifies our weak minded players` apprehension etc. When you are struggling you need the officials to do their jobs properly, today was an awful display of officiating, every time a Sunderland player fell over he blew for a free kick, Brobbey should have been sent off, Udogie was wiped out on the edge of their box and nothing given etc etc, despite what Don Goodman`s biased commentary says.

Here’s the Brobbey ‘elbow’ some of you were crying about. Porro was all over him and he literally just shrugged him off. Terrible yellow card from the referee.
