Preview. Both Wigan & Liverpool go into this important midweek fixture on the back of some good results. The home team, Wigan, have picked up 7 points out of a possible 12 in their last 4 games. This includes two away wins at Sunderland & West Brom and a hard-earned point at home to Chelsea. The away side, Liverpool, have picked up 9 points out of a possible 12 in their last 4 games. The only dropped points were at Fulham (1-0 loss) but Liverpool bounced back well with wins over Q.P.R and Saturday's 2-0 win at Villa. Wigan Athletic have enjoyed a good run of recent form after a poor start to the season. They picked up 5 points from their first three games to suggest that they were in for a good season. However, Wigan's form dropped dramatically after that and they went on a run of 8 consecutive defeats in the league. This left many fans thinking that they were going to struggle massively for the rest of the season. Roberto MartÃnez was under some pressure but a good run of form (Won 2, drawn 2 and lost 1 in their last 4 games) means that Wigan are now only 1 point off safety. Wigan have some good players and the likes of Jordi Gomez, Franco Di Santo & Ali Al Hasbi will need to be playing well if Wigan are to keep their good form going. Liverpool have enjoyed a good season so far. They currently sit 6th in the Premier League table with 29 points from 16 games. On the whole, Liverpool have played well this season and with a bit more luck in front of goal, they could be doing a lot better. We've had some good results this season (The two wins over Chelsea & the derby win over Everton) but we've had some poor results as well. (The 4-0 defeat at Spurs and the two 1-0 defeats at Stoke & Fulham) If we were able to finish our chances and pick up three points instead of one against the likes of Sunderland, Norwich City & Swansea City, our season could have been a lot better. However, I think most Liverpool fans will be reasonably happy with the season so far but we can see areas in which we could improve. Injury News. Wigan Athletic: Chris Kirkland: Back Injury. I hate playing Wigan. They've had a good run recently only losing 1 in the last 5 games. However, Wigan don't normally have a good run of games like this and hopefully we will be the team to put an end to it. As I've said before our last 3 matches, we are overdue a ruthless hammering...still waiting.
Exactly! How many times have we said this lately, if we dont watch out we will have the bitters and mancs harping on about it worse that the fabled "next year" nonsense.
1-0 for us, very tight game and once again hitting the woodwork, Al Habsi has already been in good form all year so expect him to become Lex ****ing luther. Suarez should be able to play right?
My guess is Blackburn on boxing day, unless they sack Kean. I've got a nasty feeling that this is the one match during our run of supposedly winnable games that we'll slip up in. If you offered me 1-0 I'd bite your hand off.

Once again thanks for the match thread Chris If we get an early goal I think we could murder them but as stated above I'd take a scrappy 1.0 Anyone else going to the game??
Don't have a good feeling about this game, but we have been better on the road so far this season. hopefully Carroll can get a goal, and get a decent run in the team. He is young but at the moment we need him bang on form or we will need to buy in January. Anyone reckon Shelvey will start this match?
Shelvey should be rewarded for his effort vs Villa. With the impending Saurez ban I hope Carroll gets the nod so he can put in a few minutes before the ban starts.
Yep we need Carroll to strike some form now more than ever, I just hope we don't ruin him with this pressure like we did N'gog. But for 35m you have to expect instant impact and certainly more than just 5 goals
Under the assumption than Suarez won't play, I think I'd go for a basic but solid 4-4-2 for this one. Reina Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique Maxi Henderson Adam Downing Bellamy Carroll Maxi and Downing interchanging, Bellamy to support Carroll up top. Adam sitting deeper than Henderson. Dirk and Shelvey may figure somewhere, too.
Not sure playing him would be a wise move at this stage. We need to actually focus on winning. Suarez isn't Liverpool. I would get him out of the lime light, possibly even the country. I would like Bellamy and Carroll to start. Maybe the added responsibility and run of games will fire him. We must focus.
