I tried it late in life to be fair. Only 6 years ago for a couple of years. Enjoyed the change. Have to admit we had good weather and gear. Wouldn’t do it now at health has changed since.
I hike and wild camp and love it - every year, i do a hike with my daughters where we overnight for 1-3 nights, we drive to the start point, carrying everything i need on my back, and head into the mountains on a planned route.

I've done it since I was a teenager in the navy cadets - began going to Yorkshire moors and Derbyshire/Sheffield area, then lake District and onto Snowdonia, the Brecons and Scotland - Skye, Arran, Cairngorms etc. Carried it on into adult life and have hiked and camped France, Switzerland, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Chile, but family finances have meant that I've been Norway and Sweden the last fifteen years, but there's more than enough wilderness, just inclement weather issues.

Beauty of where i live is that if i choose the right place, can go three days without seeing anyone, apart from wildlife. I'll be heavily disappointed when my body can't handle it anymore. Having the right gear is the key to enjoyment though - it's no fun if you're soaking wet, cold, eaten by mozzies and don't get a good night's sleep, but with some decent technical gear and the right luxuries, they're an investment for 10 years of it.

Not a huge fan of camping at proper organised sites because I'm not so social nor enjoy small talk, but have done it when my kids were 6-13 years old and they loved it - a cheap and easy holiday.

Sounds great. I’m glad I had a late experience of it. Might get a camper soon( cheap one). Feel the need to be away from noise at times. Keep out there pal.

A topic on LBC today (yes, LBC). 'How can it have got to this state where nearly all burglaries go unsolved?'. (Think it's being reported as something like 93%, and 100% in many areas). Could replace burglary with all sorts of other thefts.
Yeah, always been like this all thru the 80s, 90s .....nothing to see here :emoticon-0136-giggl The country is doing just fine

You don't strike me as the typical James O'Brien fanboy. :1980_boogie_down:

I doubt there are many people who think "the country is doing just fine".
Some people do however think that it isn't all just the fault of immigrants

I was going to post on the "What Grinds" thread about the lack of competent staff in various roles these days.

You can add the various Governments of all shades of the last 20 years to this, we are governed by fools with very little common sense in the decisions that effect our every day life.

The lack of competency or people not up to the job is a major cause of nothing working like it should do.
The move away from a meritocracy society where jobs were given based on a persons suitabilty for the job to now living in a world were DEI is much more prevelent is only going to ensure nothing will work/run as well as it should do.

Look, Newland, it's not really on to blame the pensioners, who instead of voting for a well-run country, have consistently voted for the government which will guarantee that the working taxpayer pay them an inflation-busting triple lock pension, despite the fact they own 60% of the country's property wealth and paid their parents only poverty level pensions in the 1970-1990s.

It's clearly also a 19 year old's fault for buying an avocado on the way into work.

I absolutely aren't.
I really can't stand the bloke.
But, as mentioned before, I force myself to listen every now and then in order to try to understand opposing views.

It clearly isn't, as a couple of posters have now nicely answered.
