A great-uncle after de-mob opened a painting and decorating shop in the North East. He came to stay in Hull shortly after Status opened. My grandparents took him for a visit. As a youngster I did not appreciate how stunned he was. His reply to the question "What do you think?", was, they are selling in there cheaper than I can buy it in.

Same happened here when B&Q opened its first shop. Several shops went bust in a matter of weeks. After a couple of years even painters and decorators struggled as DIY took hold.

You don't have to stop now, so it's obviously much better, but as you can't turn onto Ferensway (or couldn't on Saturday night), you currently have to go through the old town to get into the city centre.

Any idea where they sourced them from Rover?

There was a debate in Westminster hall recently which was pushing companies to buy British built buses but it seems that many operators are still buying Chinese.There's a company 10 miles or so from me (Alexander Dennis,Falkirk) who recently nearly folded and had to shut down their existing plant and move to another of their production factories nearby due to this, and they're currently being propped up by Government funding.

I'm just wondering whether operators are being encouraged and incentivized to buy British to prop up our failing businesses,or are they still buying from China due to cost,quality or whatever reason?

In October 2024, Stagecoach submitted a national order for electric buses with Alexander Dennis and East Yorkshire, via the Go-Ahead Group, submitted an order to Wright Bus.

I see it's been answered now mate, not that I knew the answer meself, just posted the story.
Wonder if they're going to be staying that green colour or painted their usual livery.
