We lost an important game yesterday in farcical circumstances and the pain of defeat is still evident. Fact is that this game could quite easily have gone the other way. On the balance of chances, we just edged it (despite the brum pen not given and hitting the post). Had any one of Arshavin, Nasri, Bendtner, Rosicky attempts gone in, then it's likely we would have won. We didn't - we made a crucial error and threw the game away. But this is not evidence of a failing Arsenal team. In fact, on balance, this season we are better than we've been for years AND we still have the League, Champions League (anyone remember that we beat Barca?!) and FA Cup to play for. I think Arsenal will use this defeat to fire them up and make them even more determined to get to the final of these competitions. Fabregas will be back to head this surge too and he is determined to make it happen. Believe the doom mongers and wums if you wish, but I simply look at the reality of the situation and know that we are still capable of making this a memorable season
I am happy moving forward. Only wanted this cup to shut the bloody commentators up. 5yrs no trophy's , what about birmingham 48yrs dont hear that week in week out. If we had won i would have been happy. Having said that im still happy as so much we can take from the game, yes it was a howler but kos and szes will learn from it. Sezn is 20 ffs. im sure we will beat orient and beleive we will beat united. Im hoping birmingham win too and we play them in the final. good thing is 130/1 for birmingham to do cup double. maybe worth the money.
Sorry but I have so little faith in the team at the moment. I believe we have the most talented squad in the league but mentally we are lacking the toughness that title winning sides do. Title winning sides do not throw away games like we have done against spurs, newcastle and in our final 2 group games in the champions league. You talk about using the defeat to fire us up but shouldn't we have had enough things to fire us up already? This was as easy as it will get to win a trophy, the only top side we faced were spurs, yet once again we bottled it. I can't just gloss over that and say better luck next time. The same thing happens over and over again. Thats said I would be delighted to be proved wrong.
I just think the margins in football are so tight. We lost yesterday due to a howler in defence. Had one of our many chances gone in earlier, we probably would have won and everyone would be saying that Arsenal are now the dominant force heading for a quadruple. As it is wums are saying that we are spineless - reality is, not much has changed really. We're still on course for a great season
It's so ****ing typical Arsenal though, that the defence has been immense (that sounds cool when read out loud) right up until this.
You will find out how tough mentally your team is over the next 3 games. win 2 of those games and it will be ok, win all 3 and its great, lose more than 1 and confidence will be a rare commodity imo. Hard luck yesterday, Brum deserved it I think but I was always expecting Arsenal to score. Its quite fun watching a final when your a neutral.
If we had taken our chances, if we hadn't made that mistake in defence if if if. The team need to show they are capable of winning things, and the only way to do that is by winning things. I can't blow their trumpet anymore it is up to them. I don't see how you can say we are on course for a great season when we have a tendency to lose matches whilst under pressure.
If is a small word with a wonderful meaning. Yes if Arsenal had taken their chances or Foster not been is such fine form who knows. Then again if the linesman hadn't made such a cock up, Arsenal would have been down to 10 men and facing a penalty in the opening minutes.
Maybe I am reading too much in to it but I am completely bemused to see some Arsenal supporters just sweeping the result under the carpet like it wasn't important at all
The point I am making is, that whilst it was hugely disappointing to lose yesterday, it doesn't signify a crisis in any way, shape or form. Like I said the margins in football are fine and we could have won this game. We are still vastly better than we were last season and we're still in three major competitions. If we end up winning one of them or more then the CC will be forgotten. If we end up with nothing again, then it's time to start asking questions. At the moment we just need to get behind our team
Of its not a crisis and when Chelsea hump united tomorrow your pain will have eased as you eye up the bigger prize Dark clouds & Silver linings comes to mind
LDL Merson is incredibly stupid, I have never seen anyone as brain dead as him regularly on tv. I know he is an arsenal favourite and all but that doesn't mean he is worth listening to. Szczesny is an extremely promising young keeper and a first choice partnership of Vermaelen and Djourou is a match for anyone. We don't need to sign players just work with the ones we have.
Piskiesurfer Of course I will get behind the team and I won't moan after every poor result like some people do but as far as I am concerned the team need to show that actions are bigger than words.
I see him as a Vermaelen light-very quick, technical and has occasional positional errors but without the goal scoring ability or leap. He has the potential to be very good though, just needs to be better equipped when dealing with more physical players and improve his decision making.
I want to see Arsenal win a trophy this season. The players, manager and everyone at the club are determined succeed, all I can ask for is that the team and fans give it their all. We've still got a great chance this season.
