YOUNG: WE MUST PUT IT RIGHT

Posted on: Tue 20 Dec 2011
Luke Young has called on his team-mates to show more passion at Loftus Road.

The R's lost 2-0 to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, after conceding the opening goal in the first minute of the match.

Young, a summer arrival from Aston Villa, told www.qpr.co.uk: "It's no disgrace losing to Manchester United, but it is always disappointing to lose at home.

"If you go a goal down to a team like that as early as we did, you're left climbing a bit of a mountain.

"We had a decent go after they scored in the first-half but on the day we weren't good enough. Their movement caused us a lot of problems and, with the attacking ability they've got, it was a difficult afternoon for us."

The win momentarily saw Sir Alex Ferguson's men move to the top of the Premier League table, but Young's focus is on the under-par display by the R's after the interval.

"I feel that you can't just accept defeat," he added. "Perhaps in the second half we didn't do enough to force the issue. It was all a bit too comfortable for United.

"For us at home, that's just not good enough.

"I would much rather we got in their faces and put a few big tackles in to let them know we were there, and stood up to them a bit more.

"In the end, we came off the pitch losing 2-0 to one of the best teams in the country. But is it good enough to just accept that?"

QPR host Sunderland on Wednesday evening, and Young added: "I am pleased there's another game so quickly because it gives us the chance to try and put things right.

"It's about time we gave our fans something to sing about at Loftus Road."

Occupying the visiting dug-out will be Martin O'Neill, who brought Young to Villa Park in 2008.

"He will have them well organised straight away," said the 32 year-old right-back. "They will be a difficult side to beat.

"He motivates you. He digs players out so you don't want to be coming off at half-time and be the one he's having a go at.

"Everyone knows they've got to do their job or they'll find themselves out of the team. It's a good way of managing because there's a fear factor there - you'll lose your place if you don't perform."

With the R's 15th in the table - one place above the Black Cats - the enormity of the fixture hasn't been lost on Young.

"This game is massive," he said. "I have had a look at the fixtures coming up, and the next couple of months will define our season I feel.

"We've had a couple of tough runs where it's been difficult to pick up points and I'm not saying it's going to be easier than that now, but you look at the games coming up and there's a chance there for us to start putting some points on the board.

"In the last two games we came away with nothing and that can be soul-destroying, but we have got to keep going.

"We need to make sure that the effort we're putting in against the Clubs at the top of the table is matched when we play against the sides around us."

We'll see Swords. He can't be far away from getting benched after that... Won't be that surprised if Derry's is in for him tomorrow.

I would hope that Nelly has that power Ozzie, but I'm not so sure. I think Barton was guaranteed first-team football when he signed and what with his 80k a-week wage and all that means Warnock would be extremely reluctant to drop him.

Just hope he's got the BALLS to do it - I reckon Neil has and will if he thinks it will give us a better chance of getting the 3 points. Trouble for me is I dunno that Derry is quick enough to fill in for Barton at this level. Defensive midfield, box to box player, is a position we need to strengthen January IMO.

If Barton played as well as he tweets we would have a few more points on the board

Since he "cleaned up his act" he seems to have lost passion and bite on the pitch.

If Barton loved The Hoops as much as he loved The Smiths he would be quite good..
