Agh that's different **** him then. That's much worse than a banner why is nobody talking about that?
I tend to agree with the majority of your points but the IRA are a sore point (rightly or wrongly) with the vast majority of the UK population, and any glorification of them in song would cause much offence (and public disorder) if aired in public, surely you can see that Reb?
I do appreciate the actions of the (P)IRA can elicit very strong emotions, but I can only see there being offence and the possibility for public disorder if someone is prepared to take a step away from what the songs are about. Like I said, legislating because someone exercises their imagination is bizarre in the extreme. If the Lord Advocate is correct, there is no problem with robust, even offensive opinions in any case. Of course I don't see it panning out like that. I understand there is little support for my argument against the application of the legislation but I firmly believe that if the argument was tested, It would be vindicated. Equally I understand that singing rebel songs can fall foul of the legislation and people can be absolutely correctly (in the eyes of the law) prosecuted for it. I could be stood next to them singing the same song at the same time in the same manner and be incorrectly prosecuted for it. That makes no sense at all, but theoretically that is how the law can be applied. That cannot be workable. As an aside, I fail to think of a song that speak of specific actions that people could construe as offensive. 15 years ago there were certainly a couple that could be construed that way, but as the situation in Ireland changed, so did the songbook at CP. This evidences that we (Republican Celtic supporters) are able to move forward and are self aware and politically aware.
Dev Why should the PIRA be sore point for most of the people of Scotland? I cannot recall any attacks carried out by the PIRA in Scotland.
Dev. You said yesterday Celtic was an open club, open to all. However I see many of your posts that indicate you would want Celtic rid of all the people whose views you do not share. If Celtic were an open club, open to all, then everyone should agitate in support of the person who carried the banner. Nice statements "like open club open for all" mean nothing if not put into practice.
Because most right minded people find the killing of innocent civilians abhorrent regardless of where the attacks are carried out.
And any songs about such things would of course be frowned upon. There aren't any, so this is a moot point.
