I don't think RLB will have seen football like that before.
All part of his football education
He will have learned quite a bit about his players today, in particular their mentality.
We move on

The only bright point for me is waiting for Monty's post, should be fyn

He should have learned by 50/55 minutes that it wasn't working and we needed something different

Well that was absolutely ****e, didn’t look arsed at any point today, what a shambles. Had a great chance to progress and ****ed it right up by being **** and clueless.

Well done Port Vale who wanted it more and their game plan worked and took adantage of the pitch.Hope we're not already on the beach.

Theres a fair few players there that didnt put a shift in.

East to shout about Rigg, but Diarra and Geertrudia were just as bad.

So disappointing

Not an over reaction but this summer will see another hatful of arrivals to push forward again.

Our midfield is not existant enough with Xhaka in it, drop Sadiki aswell and we've got nothing.

Brobbey is the only forward with pedigree, facts.

All the wingers are complete project players and nowhere near it yet.

Diarra was treating it like a kick about with his mates, awful.
I'd argue angolo is well up to standard

Far too casual. Attitude stunk, two new strikers needed. To barely threaten the goal is shocking mind

Got to apologise. Sorry. Last 3 times I predicted us to win, we lost 6-0 to Bolton, think it was 3-0 in the Hearts friendly and now today. Though I think Rigg is never going to develop as we hoped he would. Looked woeful today, and Diarra was very disappointing. Never put there team under increased pressure, despite the high possession

Thats embarrassing. Even if we didnt have all our injuries that was the sort of line up i would still have expected for this game. And it should have been more than enough to win comfortably. Maybe our squad is not as strong as we thought. When we went 1-0 down i still expected a win. To not even score is diabolical. Well done Port Vale. Judging by their league position that was probably their easiest game this season.

That was like a flashback to League 1.

Each and every player should hang their head in shame. Also think RLB bottled it today with the tactics, starting with 1 up front against bottom of league one on a pitch like that. Substututions were an utter shambles and way too late.

Wilson and Mayenda are nowhere near good enough, the former obviously wants to be away.
It's honestly performances like that why I wouldn't be overly fussed if we did move Mayenda and Isidor on in the summer. We need better to progress and I just don't think those 2 are good enough.

I'd wager there's a couple there who have sealed their fate as Sunderland players. Massive opportunity to show some value just pissed away.

Isidor
Mayenda
Talbi
Rigg
Geertruida

i want to drop Diarra into it tbh.

We'll sign a good 5/6 again and theyll most likely be Mukiele level type players, ready to go calibre rather than project players.

It isnt headloss either, it just shows how far away we are and how well weve actaully done in the league.

Sadiki, Reinildo, Mukiele, Xhaka, Brobbey are essential in this side, the middle 3 there are 'elite' and sadiki is the one 'project' signing, like Roefs i suppose, who has hit the ground running and looks the business.

Fully desrve any stick coming their way after that dross. All on a high after Leeds, was it complacency by the players? After all RLB's talk about them having to respect the opponent, that's a major setback.

Was this the first sign of arrogance from us?. Looked like the players thought that they only needed to turn up to win.
No passion, , no effort, no fight = no quarter final.
Well done Port Vale, no issue with them, they deserved it, but they are at the bottom of league one. We shouldn't be losing to a league one team, and hope they dont even try to give the excuse that the pitch was a leveller.

I’d love to post something positive about Europe or the derby but I cant …

… sorry but I’m off up the lane to look at the newborn lambs.

Take care everyone.
Is it just me or does anyone else think we have been a better team this season when Diarra hasn't been in it.
Don't get me wrong, everyone other than Ballard were ****e today, but he's our record signing and I wouldnt have him in our strongest starting 11
