I'm guessing this is a joke thread. As for Phil Jones being better than our current CBs ? How so ? Better than Squillaci certainly, better than Djourou - dunno about that, Djourou was immense last season as is great for Switzerland. He's not even close to Koscielny and Vermaelen. As for Chelsea's defence - HAH - they let a poor Arsenal score 5 against them !!!
C'mon, Jones is a lot better than Djourou. The media hype Jones up too much which is annoying but there's no denying that. How exactly was it a poor Arsenal side when arguably your strongest side was playing bar Vermaelen?
My 2 cents - Based on this season Hart>Reina>szechny=Friedal>De Gea>Cech(this season) Cole>Evra>Enrique>Santos=eso ekotto>clichy Kompany>TV>King>Ferdinand>Terry>Skertel> Kossy>Agger>Kaboul>Lescott>Luiz>Agger>O'shea Sagna=Richards>Ivanovich>Rafael>Walker>Johnson Although it must be said that individual players aside it is also the DM's in front of them and the style of play a team has that contributes to the defensive capabilities. For example Man City have two DM's in front of the defence while many other teams change personal and tactics based on opposition something Arsenal don't do. We play one style no matter the opposition and are more inclined to suffer defensively because of it. Thankfully we seem to be making some change in our style recently. You can see this as Chelsea have changed their style this season to be more attacking their defence has taken a big hit so it more than just personal.
Put it this way Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool all bid 17.5mn for a 19 year old CB who had one full season in the EPL (how many would get close to that for Djourou). That being said he would be 4th choice at Arsenal but in 3-4 years I can see him walking into any team in the EPL and possibly the world
Clearly you didn't see Djourou last season, he was fantastic for us, a top defender. And you obvioulsy don't remember how good he is paired with Senderos for Switzerland, he is a quality defender, just at times he can be an utter dweeb by switching off. Jones hasn't done a damn thing yet - so all this talk about how great a defender he is is total bollox. Talk to me about him when he grows some hair on his balls. (disclaimer)
No he was'nt we conceded 43 league goals and he played for a large chunk. Our defence was **** last season. Vermaelen is far and away our best centreback.
Also with everyone fit this is our 'first choice' defence: Sagna----Mertesacker----Vermaelen----Santos Koscieleny and Vermaelen wont be played together. Mertesacker and verm gives us a more balanced pairing. the german alsio gives us height and experience.
I agree his goal against the chavs was very good, but isn't he still a bit of a liability in terms of backtracking?
It wasn't a wum attempt - no offence but walker has been only a top line defender for half a season while Silva has been around for a few seasons. Glen has been injured for ages and is only just finding his way to form - this is just my opinion but looking back on it rafael=walker=johnson would prob be more appropriate. If it was a wum attempt wouldn't all the Tottenham players be at the bottom rather than just one of them or all the arsenal players the best??
In which case Santos should clearly be bottom of your left-back pile. He's played a handful of games and looked shaky in most of them. It probably speaks volumes that you appear to have included O'Shea as a Man Utd centre-back, frankly.
Sugar!!! meant Evans - and santos has looked pretty decent especially going forward and no offence I have never thought Eso was anything special that being said they are all below Evra who is even further below Cole. Hell i would put Zabeletta third if he played more games at LB. On the other hand i think without injury problems King would have been the best CB in the league just the way i think in time Jones will be (players who dont play for Arsenal). But I also think Bale and Nasri are overrated (last season - and neither has done anything to change my mind). Or RDV is arguably the best AM in the league behind Silva - i have different opinions on different players (whether they play for Arsenal or Not) just because they disagree with your opinions does not make me a wum. If you disagree with me tell me why don't just say your wrong therefore your a wum, learn to debate first then scream wummery. For example "Walker is English therefore better than any dirty foreigner who plays for other teams therefore you sir are a wum"
I'll spoil the thread with some good old fashioned numbers instead of some good old fashioned biased opinion: Goals conceded (games) Liverpool 13 (16) City 14 (16) Utd 14 (16) Spurs 18 (15) Chelsea 19 (16) Newcastle 19 (16) Arsenal 24 (16) Arsenal definitely have the best defence Note: You can also put Villa, Everton, Fulham, Swansea and Sunderland above Arsenal and WBA level with them in that list!!
Who decides that? What's Spurs' first choice centre-back pairing, for example? King with Gallas, Kaboul or even Dawson? Who's City's first choice left-back? Half of Chelsea's places are debatable, too.
