Anybody know why the Saints v Bristol game is on a Friday night?? Seems weird choice to me as the game isnt being shown live on tv?

Why cant we just play on Saturday afternoon like every other team in the division? Im sure some bright spark has a reason to have the game at that time?

Yeah, I've heard it's on police advice, so that they've got all their resources free for New Years Eve. But I'm not convinced myself. What makes Southampton any different from the other big cities across the UK on New Years Eve? Why aren't they all playing on the Friday night as well?

As i've said before in a previous post:

    It's a police issue.
Extra police will be required to work in Southampton on New Years eve. Those that would be involved in the match if it were to be played on the 31st, would also have to be involved in the New Years Eve celebrations long into the early hours of the morning. Normally this would be fine but due to the number of police officers available, this couldn't happen. Therefore, there would be a police shortage at either the football match or in the city centre during the New Years eve celebrations. Maybe even at both events.

To solve this problem, the Bristol City match has been brought forward by one day so that there will be adequate police presence/numbers for both events. (Obviously, it had to be the match that was brought forward because you can't change the date of New Years Eve).

    Hope this explains the situation.

we shouldn't be complaining about this as it gives us an extra day for our players to recover. some managers are complaining about sat and monday game so we found a solution to this problem

I thought it was because the trains stop on New Year's Day at 4?

It's quite good for Bristol City, too. After the Saints game they have a 4 day break before their match at home to their relegation rivals Millwall on Tuesday 3rd Jan, whereas Millwall only have 2 and a half days. Works out well for both teams so why not?

Train services in Southampton will be operating as usual on New Years Eve.

New Years Day will be a normal Sunday timetable aswell.
