first time i ve seen Adam Pearson termed 'Director' of Football Operations. Is it a promotion or a mis-print?
The thing that slightly concerns me about all this is that, as of right now, there is very little to stop another club from coming in and offering Barmby a better job somewhere else. You'd like to think that after all he's said that that is a million miles away from where his intentions lie, but while this cat and mouse game with the owners over January budgets continues we are at higher risk of losing him without any compensation than we would be if he had a contract in place.
I can 100% say that NB would not go manager another club, he would rather stay a player/coach here. His agent is coming over on Friday with the full intention of confirming him as permanent manager.
I thought he was "Head of Football Operations" although I just checked the Hull City Club website and he is not listed in any role!!
Do you happen to know why nothing "seems" to be being done to get Anthony Gerrard back. He is out of contract in the Summer, he isn't currently in the first 11, he was our player of the year last year etc etc. Have we already been told a Prem side will come in for him in the summer or that he wants too much money or something. Surely we do need another CB!
The issue with the CB position is that we don't want to split up Hobbs/Chester, so whoever we sign will be as cover only and it's finding a player who is going to be happy to do that. As far as I know, Gerrard isn't even on our radar.
Not doubting what you say for one minute, but I find it strange that it hasn't occurred to anyone to bring a former player of the season back. Maybe all those shut-out last season along side "Dad" Chester were a daydream!!
I d suggest that is not going to happen, although I do wonder if he for some strange reason didnt take the job, what could he do next? Surely there'd be no way back to a player/coach type level
It's not really true to say he's not in their starting XI, he's started 16 games for them this season, he came off injured in a game just under three weeks ago and was back on the bench for their last game, so once he gets his chance to get his place back, he probably will in the starting XI again. It is true that his contract is expiring though, so if they did want to cash in, there could be a deal to be done.
I'd think that it would be possible to go back to player/coach from the role of caretaker manager as technically he is just in charge until a full time appointment is made. However, it would be impossible from the manager's position.
Does anyone want him though? Surely it's only us that love him? To anyone else he's just a new manager who has had a decent start. This is good thinking, I remember in the summer when we were after Ayala people were debating whether Chester would end up in midfield and whether Hobbs would play at all. We have one of the best defences in the league and there's no reason to start tinkering with it.
It's got nothing to do with tinkering it's about the quality (or lack of it) we have in reserve should either Hobbs or Chester get injured. What would happen if Chester snapped his achilles in training next week and was ruled out for the season? Also it's about competition for places. Players play better if they know if they phuck up there is someone waiting to fill their shoes.
Maybe that is why Hobbs and Chester and playing so well this season, knowing that the wonder that is Paul McShane is snapping at their heals
