No you div, you said you expect strikers to score more than they miss. Fryatt's stats are largely irrelevent when we're talking about the expectations you're measuring him against being ridiculous.
Fryatt is pivotal to our development as a team no matter what Fez or anyone says. Thinking that he is **** or not good enough won't take us anywhere, we should support the players on our squad as they, as all of us are looking out for the club's best interest.
Cheers Ricardo, and which div am I in? Okay, so taken literally my phrase "expect strikers to score more than they miss is a little hopeful, but that is what supporters generally are. If you were to measure it against the rest of my posts I think I argue a reasonable case. Having said that Fryatts stats seem to be relevant to those that argue his case, so 8 goals, some tap-ins on a plate and penalties (how many?). He is being provided with a service by the best footballing side in the league and I would seriously expect him to up his game. Have I said he is not, we have not got better at this time. It has been a common theme , on here and elsewhere, that we need another 'more prolific striker' - perhaps that is because the one we have is a 'more profligate striker' - I think, again, if you read my comments i actuall admire much of his game and never call him ' ****', but whether or not he is good enough for our collective ambition must surely be up for serious debate. Ivy Tiger Up The Tigers - a bit creepy that!
There's only six players in this league who've scored more goals than Fryatt this season, two of them are on loan from the Premier League(one's actually a midfield player), four of them have only scored one more goal than Fryatt. There's still some areas of the team that we need to sort, but replacing Matty Fryatt isn't one of them.
Agreed and if a striker/forward comes in January, I would expect McLean to be the one that drops to the bench more than Fryatt
what utter tosh. ^^^^^^^^ this. since NB took over Fryatt has been playing as well as ever and on saturday like Mclean worked his ass off. Fryatt also had a perfectly good goal chalked off for offside when he was not offside when the ball was played to him.
the midfielder is keith andrews @ ipswich who looks like he is going back to blackburn rovers in jan. andrews has nine goals after saturday by the way. Fryatt would also have been on 9 if the dodgy offside had not happened.
In all fairness you would hope Fryatt could score more than Andrews but 8 goals from Fryatt isn't bad and credit has to go to Andrews for scoring 9 from midfield (this is well above average)
8 goals from Fryatt indeed isn't bad but when you consider the shots he's had it should be a lot more. We create loads of chances for him and he consistently fails to beat the keeper in simple situations, half the time he doesn't even bother shooting, he just dribbles it up to the keeper. This is a typical example of a not606 player. He is being defended left, right and centre but not one person has offered any explanation to why, what makes him so talented? Where is the evidence? It certainly isn't in his shooting. He's being defended because he's Fryatt and it's popular to like him. If everything was the same but we were talking about McLean, you'd all have the complete opposite view.
What's your problem? I say something really positive about the club and believe that we're playng some really fantastic football at the moment and you go and respond like that... Of course it's a complaint rather than a discussion... The tone of the article gives it away Sounds like you only know how to 'mass debate'...
Again, you pick up on my argument regarding the quality of his finishing after the excellent supporting play he receives from midfield and defence (Rosenoir in particular); you, like me must actually watch the games! It is a little amusing that on a parallel thread, some of these posters argue Billy Sharps value and prowess for scoring more in fewer games with a far inferior midfield
I think I may have mentioned already, we have no intention of signing Billy Sharp. Or Billy Elliot. Or Billy Smart.
'If everything was the same but we were talking about McLean, you'd all have the complete opposite view.' - Well I wouldn't! I would have the same view in that case! Why do you think people rate Fryatt above McLean? Simply because we are talking about centre forwards/strikers and Fryatt appears to be a better player so far based on watching the pair in games for Hull City and looking at the stats. I happen to rate McLean, I just happen to rate Fryatt higher. Simples!
I just think Fryatt gets people'e preferenve because of who he is rather than what he does. They do very similar things but everyone overlooks it with Fryatt. If we sign someone who actually knows there the goal is, you'll all see what I mean about Fryatt before long.
We'd have the same argument in a years time. Billy Sharp doesn't take every chance he gets, unless you've only ever seen him on Netbusters. Having flopped after his previous big move, he's a big gamble at £3m too, albeit one I'd like us to take.
Are you seriously that stupid? Matt Fryatt's league record for Hull City: Played 40 (+4 sub) - 17 Goals. That's nearly 1 in 2 which is as good a strike rate as you are likely to get (Messi and Ronaldo aside). The fact is, he could have scored more. But you know what? If he'd scored more, he'd be a Premier league striker, he wouldn't be signing for Hull City for a million quid.
FFS get over the stats and repuatations, he misses a one on one nearly every game. What more could he do to show he can't finish? Give me enough chances to score and I'll eventually get 8, the thing that makes you get paid mega money for doing it is scoring with regularity relative to the shots you have. We are one of the most open and fluent teams in the league and lately we create loads of chances for him and he mises them all. Look at Koren, most of his shots are twice as far out as most of Fryatt's and he still has less trouble beating the keeper. He has the intelligence to aim for the corners and not just bang it at the 'keeper as quickly as possible. Nothing about what Fryatt does in the box shows he can finish, you just all want to bum him cos he's Fryatt. Watch the games.
