Can anyone explain the wave that was going on in the Milton End? Nobody around me could explain it either.
They could be heard after they scored - as would be expected. I have to say I agree that they weren't as noisy as I expected. That said, the three blue sides were a lot louder than I've heard for a long time.
What's this wave thing you're talking about? I did wonder why the Portsmouth fans started chanting "Does your bf know you're here?". The reply from the Southampton fans was quite amusing though: "Does your sister know you're here?" Aha. As for the Southampton fans in general, they were quite quiet during the first half. During the second half they were much louder, even before they scored.
Yes Pompey fans outsung us for most of the game, but this game was their cup final with over 5,000 more turning up than usual, every other time i've seen them on tv this season, they haven't been anywhere near as vocal and it's a safe bet that 27,000 Saints fans will out sing them in the return fixture like the last game at SMS.
Chill out a bit saintsalive - I was only pointing out the fact that despite you outsinging the Pompey fans, we still turned you over 4-1
SMS? No wonder you lost the last game! You were meant to be playing football not texting! Also, I think we've only been on TV once this season.
Haha typical Pompey, deflecting from my point which was... WE FILLED YOUR GROUND FOR YOU!..where were all the JCLs at your previous home games, when the atmosphere was flatter than last year's bubbly?
Wow, I didn't realise you were at our last few home matches - respect to you as a true Pompey fan - you have seen the light
No, I got the information from the Portsmouth fans online site when I wanted to find out the Pompey view on the Derby...
It will also be full on Boxing day against Palace Meowth. (apologies if your comment was just a texting joke... )
A little from column A, a little from Column B. You can take it any way you please, which suits me fine and dandy!
Derby matches will generally sell out either every seat or close to it up and down the country with any teans. Both teams could be bankrupt and in the non-league southern league and Fratton Park or St. Mary's would still be sold out in the derby. They are unique matches which attract more interest than pretty much any other except a cup final. Logically, when a teams doing well they get more fans in and better atmosphere and when a teams doing poorly they get less fans and a poorer atmosphere. Not every game is going to be against Arsenal or A.C. Milan where the fans will be happy to get away without the team embarrassing itself and if the team does embarras itself then it'd be put down to inevitability. I fail to see what's unique about this wher Pompey is concerned? Maybe some fans were blinded by the praise received when Arsenal thrashed us at Fratton Park in our first Premier League Season and claimed a kind of superiority over others. So what? I think the majority of us Pompey fans didn't claim any kind of superiority and recognize reality for what it is. In fact it's more a minority of Southampton fans nowadays that are perpetuating the myth that Portsmouth fans think themselves superior so they can criticise us than anything else..
I remember when our stripey neighbours were in the depths of despair and heading towards administration the crowds there were around the 13,000 mark. Now they are enjoying some success the Fairy Grotto is rocking again and all the old fans have come out from under the woodwork, thus proving MAJR's point perfectly.
I think we have all had our dig & milked this to death! Seasonal wishes to all, whatever your colours & hope we all have a happy 2012.
