Before I start, I am not saying some unsaintly idiots wouldnt have done the same thing, but I found the abuse given to our players was way over the top especially by the kids in their crowd. It was embarrassing watching it with my kids and a few neutrals yesterday on the box. Its a real shame the level of hatred shown by both sets of fans. I found it ironic that Guly was getting loads of abuse and he is from Brazil who had probably never been to Pompey before. I am glad our stadium will hide the fact we have such idiots at our ground with the pitch being so far away. Do you agree the coverage left Pompey fans in bad light with neutrals? I also see a photo on the website, where they almost have hold of Richardson's shirt when he is taking a throw? I couldnt deal with that. I feel the level of hatred has gone too far and I dont remember it being that bad for the 4-1 down there.
To be honest I think that should be left to the Saints management to complain if they think there is a case to answer, in regards to player harassment. If there was or is any crowd harassment the authorities come down pretty hard on clubs and that is the last thing that Pompey needs right now. They have enough problems. The bating of players has gone on for time immemorial perhaps a few will remember the Cantona incident some years ago. To a degree it goes with the job physical contact on the other hand can get clubs closed down for home games and would be disastrous. I believe it was Millwall that last suffered that ignominious punishment although I am not sure.
They had a **** rep before the game so it doesn't change many peoples opinions. What makes me laugh is that there mostly plastics that only turn up for the 'big' games. We filled your ground for you! We filled your ground for you! We filled your ground for you! We filled your ground for you!
The funny thing was that after we'd taken the lead, they were still holding the ball in the crowd. They're so f*cking stupid they didn't even realise that they were wasting their own time!
Hahah so true i was thinking the exact same thing, they looked so cocky when they did it, i was willing them on!
I thought it was funny when Lallana went over to take a corner in the first half and one particularly overweight, but mild looking, Pompey supporter screwed his face up and shouted... you're f*****g s**t, which although I found funny, because Lallana took not the slightest bit of notice, I thought was a little over the top, and crucially, entirely incorrect..!
It's just an observation that it seems to be getting worse. Old grounds like fratton encourage it. Where else on earth would people accept 50 people hurling abuse at one person 2 ft away from the crowd. Tbf the players did really well and blocked it out.
Is that why after you were promoted last season, rather than focusing on your own club getting promoted, your fans were chanting about 'Coming for us'?
Fair point PL. its both ways in equal measures. Was in train chatting to fella who was into same type of music recently. Soon as he found out I supported saints he got up and moved. That's freckin sad.
I personally thought it was more Saints who hated pompey but after Sunday I think its fair to say that the hate goes both ways. I think the abuse of the players is great and what makes a derby match, long may it continue.....
No it is not the same way in equal measures. The BBC were so horrified by the behaviour of the Portsmouth supporters that they stopped showing crowd images of PFC fans for fear of upsetting the viewers. The level of abuse, hatred and foul language and gestures exhibited by Pompey fans at Fratton Park was at a level the nation could not stomach to watch on their TVs. Every Skate should hang their head in absolute disgust and shame at their behaviour and it wasn't just hot headed little kids it was grown men, fathers and grandfathers. They were all an absolute disgrace to this country and to the sport. Their hatred borne out of pure envy has now become unacceptable. Sadly like the leopard they cannot change their spots. Why do you think Dickens and Brunnel moved away? Just don't get me quoting the thoughts of General Wolfe of Heights of Abraham fame on the despicable citizens of Portsmouth. I personally don't care if the hyper sensitive and censoring Pompey board moderators get me kicked me off this board for saying the truth but what was witnessed at Fratton Park was beyond the Pail and totally unacceptable in a civilised country. The sooner their rotten little club goes to the wall the better. And on that note I bid you cheerio as this will probably be the last thing I will be permitted to post.
I think your right that it was a disgrace and that's why I started the thread. Seemed most evil what was on display. It will put kids off going too football. However if you think our club doesn't have the same mindless thugs I think you are wrong. At Bristol city I had two 12 year olds near me giving the old shuffle sign to everything and everyone. And I have been to enough away games to know what we are like. Granted at fratton it seemed widespread though. Every section, every age group.
Hi Godders. you're on the Saints board, so it's nothing to do with me. If you'd typed this on the Pompey board, well what would you expect me to do? Sorry you feel this way, I do mean it, we are not all like that you know. I guess what happens is one's attention is drawn to the irate, gesticulating fan and not the ones in the same vicinity who are sat down watching the match. It's easy, therefore, to tar everyone with the same brush, empty vessels and all that. Keep working at it, oh and it's Brunel not Brunnel. Usually I don't play the spelling game, but it is important, for a truly great man like Isambard. please log in to view this image
With any luck the match at SMS will be the last time we play Pompey in the league for a while (I really can't take the stress). The match went off OK with no real trouble, we got an away point, we're still top of the league...time to move on and concentrate on the Boxing Day match.
If you follow Rickie Lamberts interview, he found the ball retention by the blue loonies extremely amusing, scouse sense of humour I suppose, I am sure John Bishop is doing his voice overs.
To be fair, I was a bit concerned that people might take it too far and grab hold of a Southampton player and pull him into the crowd, as if being devoured by a pack of zombies. I think that happened to one player once (not the devoured part), not at a south coast derby but another game.... Did I imagine that or did that actually happen?
I agree with the OP. It wa pathetic, kids of maybe 10 yrs along with their dads giving it the w**** sign every time there was a saints throw or corner! And it was on tv for the world to see!
I'm sure you could pull off plenty of comments from the Echo or whatever that paint Southampton fans in a negative light. Point is, don't generalise an entire team's fanbase based on a very small minority of fans.
