here we go again.....anyone that insults black, gay, or slow, fast, fat, tall small, chinese, ginger, should be inprisoned and have their fingers chopped off. But once again, no proof that these taunts and chants actually exists during the game but in your own perception of WHAT YOU want people to behave like at CAFC matches. I am not insulting anyone but it may be you that have difficulty with REAL PEOPLE. Perhasp it is snobbery or class that you find difficult to master. Who says that a football terrace has to be the paragon of virtue and manners. Who is the arbiter of that behaviour-You? What gives you the right to decide peope, have stepped the line, when the line does not exist? In 30 years and over 2000 CAFC matches, I have never witnessed anything insitutionally racist at CAFC. Know matter how much you want it to be racist or the ist of any kind, you cannot have your cricket green support.
Is this move actually a big step - for either side of the spectrum? A few people here and there just to maintain no chants/taunts of a racial nature exist within our support is hardly anything of note IMO. We don't have a problem, but I have seen a few individuals take certain issues too far.. but then what I deem as our ''true fans'' have always been quick to jump in and let the individual know that they've taken it too far. Although, I think if we can remove the 0.001% that might shout a racial slur (at any player), then that's only a good thing. It stops the club actually getting in trouble and receiving any sort of negative press.
No standing, no smoking, no alcohol, no bottle tops, no swearing, no chanting...when will the pc brigade ever give it a rest.
I agree, it's natural to swear in anguish after David Mooney misses an open goal in the last minute. I've no problem with chants like the "you can shove your f*cking record up your arse" vs Huddersfield It's when it gets personal and nasty, especially when unprevoked, that's when it becomes unacceptable. Hopefully the club has identified the worst offenders.
Some people are not cut out to watch football! I suggest if you don't like banter and swearing stay at home or try lawn bowls. No wonder everyone call us trainspotters
killerandflash must've been right beside me based on his comments. That bloke doing most of the shouting was a weirdo. He wasn't chanting either It was the ****test banter going. And no, I don't think "****ing ****" at an opposition player who's ballooned a shot wide is offensive, just weird. "Waaaaay" is fair game, mind.
On a bright note - the Scottish Premier League are considering the possibility of bringing back limited Standing areas, lets hope this is a success so we can try and get a bit of atmosphere back into the games, especially as I didnt see any issues with standing @ Rochdale or Hartlepool this season. In regards to the main topic, I agree and disagree with many points raised and this is from someone who gets involved as much as possible in the singing on away trips though two issues: The Addams Family song... This was funny when it started a few years ago but has grown tiresome now is one I certainly dont join in with. The Kevin Lisbie song... I dont know it but I've heard snippets and cant understand it, yes he had a brief spell will Millwall but over the years so have many Charlton player (inc. Mr Racon) is it enough to hurl abuse at him - especially after he scored a hat-trick against Liverpool I think that if there should be songs about anyone they should be aimed at Scott Parker or Jermaine Defore. Even better I wish the main singers would concentrate on singing the positive songs about our own players, never know it might enspire them to put the ball in the net more
No I don't need you patronising when posting on here and don't make your stereotypical assumptions based on people you don't know, whose background you don't know who don't conform to your image as a 'proper' fan. I have been going for a number of years on and off in the 70s and more regularly in the 2000s and have experienced racist taunts aimed from fans right by me as well as homophobic abuse. I don't need your lecture on class either from a family background of dockers and I am fully aware that swearing is part and parcel of football whether I like it or not is besides the point. But I am not putting up with those who shout out racist or homophobic personal abuse which I have encountered at home and away games and neither should anyone else. Yes I have heard it and I as well as some other fans complained and action was taken, the thing was we had evidence and the club was able to witness it and deal with it. If you're so concerned about it then why don't you complain to the club about it and say it was all made up as you would do even when faced with the stark reality. But then if a player is repeatedly called a black c**t as one of our former PL players was and it's witnessed as well by club staff then you'd call us all liars in your world. You defend the unacceptable and deny it doesn't exist when it does but more and more people are no longer taking it lying down. Your posts are always bitter anyway and laced with spite just like the one above, again you put a point across with extreme exaggeration, do a bismarck and deliberately distort what someone says or bring in some personal attack so I don't have to justify what I and others do to the likes of you anyway.
I agree it's often full of aggression by implication aimed at someone who just wants to enjoy the match and support the team and ruins away games.
The chants are banter, some overstep the mark and I won't take part. I'm in my music 'box' anyway now so not much point in taking part lol But abuse directed at individuals is not something that I like to see and those caught doing it should be removed and if possible banned from the ground. We don't need supporters like that, end of. I've read all the posts here and I'm not going to comment any further, but some of the beliefs shown here are shocking to me. I do worry about some people.
I always thought banter was supposed to be friendly teasing, I didn't realise racist or homophic abuse or the other abuse mentioned above fell under that category.
Who? I hope you would agree with my taking action on the racism I encountered several seasons ago when it was sustained personal abuse of one player.
Sorry mate I don't understand. Just to be clear, I'm not condoning racial abuse and it should be dealt with.
See edit above and But then if a player is repeatedly called a black c**t as one of our former PL players was and it's witnessed as well by club staff then you'd call us all liars in your world.
Yes mate of course, I agree with you. Blimey, little hurt you would think that of me to be honest with you mate. After all I work for the club....
Exactly how many arrests have been made as a result of racist or homophobic chanting at the valley then Patrick? In say the last 20 years so you and the rest of the polo jumper avengers can claim an epidemic? In your wide and decidedly straight world of conformity, do you not appreciate that others have a right to scream and swear. Are you not getting close to book burning here? Are you not imposing a censorship? What your doing is denying a rite of passage for children to turn into adults by experiencing the cultural working class side side of football. The banter and witticism of terrace talk would be lost forever in your world of ballon bursting censorship. If you take away the scum and dirt from football, what do you have left? Crystal Palace. Grow up and let others enjoy themselves, the cardigan police ought to be more receptive to those that create an atmosphere at the valley. They are the future wether you like it or not.
Anyone that has known me over the years on the message boards, would know that is not what I meant at all and you damn well know it. What saddens me is that when someone tries to make a valid point about pc correctness gone mad, someone has to try and drag it in to the gutter to appease their own cause. Back to my point, we do not live in a dictatorship but the way the pc brigade are carrying on, we are fast heading that way.
Screaming obscnenities isn't creating an atmosphere, atmosphere is created by fans united in song, getting behind their team. Do you really think our players are inspired by hearing someone shouting out for 90 minutes f*cking c*nt or bl*ck b*stard at the opposition players? PS Glovepup and Charltonpat, lookig at your comments I think you are 100% in agreement with each other!
