So Man Utd, City and Chelsea all keen on his holiness Lord Cheik, and for all fat Mike's faults, he definitely knows how to play hardball and get over the odds when the circumstances are right ala Carroll.

Take into consideration that he's contracted until 2017, only 25 years of age, the best ball winner in the PL and the rich finances of all 3 clubs interested I think if he does go it will be for a massive fee, so how much do you reckon we'll potentially get for him? Me personally think it will be between £25-30 million...

He wont go to City or Man U. City can get a far better player and Man U are supposedly lining up a 30/40 million bid for a centre midfielder from Portugal. Chelsea may bid but even they have Romeu and Essien, with Mikel in reserve.

Let him go to City if he's going anywhere, 100 million + Johnson + Balotelli <whistle>

Well if City are looking for tough tackling player than there's not many better than Tiote, they have De Jong but I think even though both are about even defensively, Cheiks all round game is better.

An astronomical bid - it would have to be at least £25m. Carroll cost us nothing and he went for £35m, there's no way Tiote would go for £20m - that's nothing in today's transfer market.

Man City won't happen, they have De Jong, Toure, Milner, Barry, and probably loads of players I've forgotten in CM.

However Man U could happen. I don't believe Ferguson for one second when he says that he's not signing anyone in January. I think he wants a 'tough tackling midfielder (such as Tiote) and a creative midfielder.

Not so sure about Chelsea now that Romeu and Ramires have struck up a good partnership.

Perhaps the ACoN is an advantage if he's not in the country for most of the transfer window.

I can see us making a killing on this if we do sell. With Carroll it was 35 million, all up front. Ashley and Llambias are many things, but they aren't naive when it comes to out going transfers!

If Tiote left for £30m and we signed Cissokho (sp?) for £9m, Giroud for £12m, and someone like Diame (or a better alternative) for around £6m would people be happy?

It's unlikely, but I'd take that.

I could probably live with that. We've been doing pretty well without him, all we'd need is a proper DM to replace him instead of Guthrie.

EDIT: However, the message it would send out to other players would make me think otherwise.

<laugh> yeah that piece in the paper is what i was thinking of! I'd love it if we got something stupid like 50 million as a lump sum for Tiote. Of course i'd rather we just kept him though, and after reading that bit in the paper, i'm warily confident we won't sell everyone.

I'd still rather Tiote to be honest but i wouldn't be AS bothered if we signed those 3!

I would only sell him if he genuinely wanted to leave, if he's happy to turn down those clubs then we should too.

  15. It's bullshit about City. They have like 3 defensive midfielders.

I can already see Manure's plan though -

Tiote as defensive mid, they'll go back in for Schneider in summer.

    ------------------New striker---------------------

    Nani----------------Rooney--------------Valencia

    ---------Tiote--------------Schneider-----------

    That's a fantastic line up.

Seriously though, Manure for Tiote is the only believable one for me. They desperately lack a holding mid. Rooney is the only one that can act as a holding midfield players at Manure, but it results in him dropping to far back. They need someone to tackle on the holding midfield role and let Rooney have his breathing space and do his thing upfront.

I think if we sold and re-invested in the squad with quality players (1 midfielder out, 1 defender, one midfielder and 1 striker in) then I don't think it sends a bad message. However, if we got £30m in and only spent £7/8 million then it sends the wrong message.

Only if he wants to go though, forcing a player out would destroy morale.

That's a shocking line up to be fair, Sneijder plays right off the front man for a start, and has been in piss poor form for a good year now.

  19. To be quite honest with you, no that we have Abeid and Guthrie, I wouldn't miss Tiote a massive amount. He's been hot and cold recently, and we could use the cash to get more players in. Sell Tiote for 25m, buy Cissokho/Pieters 7m, new striker (luuk de jong, Giroud or whoever) 10m, a good CB 8m. Sign Hoillet in the summer on a free transfer.

I'd take the Tiote loss as we have players that can fill that CM spot, and also because we have more areas that need strengthening.
