Who would you put him in for? What system would you go to? This is the main problem with us signing someone like Billy Sharp, he is exactly like Fryatt and we would need to go to a 4-4-2, and it would be harsh on Mclean to go back on the bench, and also harsh to push Koren out wide, as we have all seen the difference he has made in the centre. His quality at cutting in is still there and he did have some good performances on the left, but the current 4-2-3-1 has worked wonders, and i would be very very worried about unsettling that. So maybe a loan of a youngster or someone to the summer would be a better idea, where he maybe willing to be on the bench. Overall we all agree we need a striker but its hard to find him a place, and hopefully this is what Barmby is going to be paid to do.......
whoever we sign will start off on the bench. they will have to prove there worth to break into citys team at the moment Unless of course any injuries or suspensions kick in first.
Which is where the problem lies, which million pound striker or whatever is willing to come and sit on the bench? There is no point bringing someone in who is just as good as those we have, if you want automatic promotion you need to go beyond that level. Which is why i ask how do we fit him into our system.
I'd choose one of: Basso Rosenior Chester Hobbs Dawson Evans McKenna McLean/WINGER Koren Stewart STRIKER Basso Rosenior Chester Hobbs Dawson McLean/WINGER Koren McKenna Stewart Fryatt STRIKER I personally favour the first option.
thats NB problem not ours. first lets see who it is that comes to the club. i know what your saying but at the moment its not an issue. but for sure whoever it is will have to wait his turn as is the norm with most new players. but i also think that after the xmas and new fixtuires Nick will want to rest Cammy. the lad has done so well but you have to look after kids especially when they have been out so long. IF, the new striker is signed prior to the FA Cup game then Expect him to play in that one for sure.
Definately prefering the first option, give you more cover defensively yet still attacking as we have seen. I am just not a huge fan of Mclean out wide as on Saturday you could tell he was not a natural there which is not necessarily his fault.
We have found a system that works, which has been built for Koren to excel in. It would be stupid to think it will be changed any time soon, unless due to injuries\suspensions etc. For me, we will stick with the 4231 (433) and should a more prolific striker come in, I would hope it would be Fryatt that makes way (only so that we keep the same shape and formation).
what i like about the current system apart from the fact that it works so well is that Its all about pass and move and the front line all inter-change with each other which keeps the opposition guessing. agree if it aint broke dont fix it.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^This. The point is that we now have 'fluid football' and, as long as the flow isn't at the expense of defence, we can live with it. Yes?
The 4 2 3 1 is brilliant, but that won't stop us signing another striker like Sharp. If they do play the same way (Fryatt and Sharp)then that's not such a big problem. You can play either one as a choice (if one drops off form/injured) or one plays 1st half with the other playing the 2nd half. If they are so similar that would not affect the team. If we find they play differently it's the managers choice depending on the opposition. Either way it keeps them on their toes and we get the best out of both.
Yep but if you was a top striker would you sign for a club without guranteeing to play? I completely agree the system we have is the right one, the only problem is playing a square peg in a round hole with Mclean on the wing, so signing another striker would just make it worse.
Aye i am not saying we won't just trying to see if anyone would change system etc.... As this is a decision that can make or break a season, and i agree thank god for NB.
Think we need a good shadow striker i.e work rate of Mclean and finishing skills of Koren type but taller.Problem is who the hells that for under £9m!.Think as OLM beat me to it Voakes is the no1 target as ticks both boxes with some confidence behind him.
