We've had a thread on here about the best places to go for a Sunday roast and also the best Indian's, but what pubs still do decent grub?

There a few pubs that have basically become restaurants, like the Wellington(Lund), The Star(Sancton), Pipe and Glass(Dalton) and the Hotham Arms, but do any pubs still do good pub food?

Almost every pub now seems to serve the same frozen/microwaved ****e, a few places are all right if you just want a sandwich and chips, but there must be some pubs they still cook proper food, surely?

Hare and Hounds in Burstwick is half decent. It's proper Pub food though, so you won't get any of your fine dining menu stuff.

I had a really nice dinner in a pub called The Tiger. I'm not sure where it is but it's fairly local.

The Whttington and Cat near the ice arena do good nose bag.

Big portions and none of that microwaved ****e.
    Decent price as well.

Probably too far out of the way for most people but Hope and Anchor at Blacktoft is superb. I would rate it higher than Triton, for sure.

Nothing fancy, just quality pub grub (and an awesome Sunday Roast).

    One on the corner?

The one in Brantingham has massively gone downhill from what it was.

Can still get a good meal (and frankly obscene portion) at The New Clarence.

Also, West Bulls for a carvery is good, but like you, indentikit microwave palaces.

    That's the Wetherspoons influence.

A bit far for you lot to travel <laugh>, but the little pub in my village is a cracker. Went there last Wednesday night and my mate had Game Stew w/side bowl of veg; I had Wild Mushroom Stroganoff w/rice; and we shared a (starter) bowl of Scallops. Beautifully cooked, veg was not wet and sloppy, nor was the rice. Price? Less than £20 for the two of us.

(And Batemans Christmas Ale on tap)

I live near the Whittington & Cat (never been in though).

Anyway, linked story here. A while back, I was driving past and approached the pub in traffic.

There I was, peering around to see a frosted glass window on the side and what must have been a bathroom.

And what did I see? Fully topless woman with huge hooters. Well, I could've crashed. End of story.

    Can't comment on the food...

Pan fried Haddock at Hotham Arms is amazing.

A tad too expensive for what it is, but a great atmosphere. Owners always good for a giggle too when he gets the guitar out.

I'll be travelling down your way over Christmas, might give the Christmas ale a try.

Star Inn Willerby, cracking steak pie at weekends, not been during the week. And Darleys on Boothferry Road seemed to have pulled their socks up, quite a popular place.

It was the Triton that actually generated this thread, I was there yesterday and it was utterly disgusting, just as it was last time I went.

The Gnu in North Newbald used to be fantastic.
Last time I went it was shockingly bad.

I understand it's under new management so might give it another try soon.
