Much as I’m looking forward to the exciting xmas period, 4 games in 13 days does seem a bit bonkers. I don’t understand, for example, why there are mid week fixtures this week when most people won’t have finished work yet
I used to love the start of the season because even if the lads were away, you only had to wait till Tuesday night for the first home game. So I’d rather have had this week’s fixtures played in the opening week of the season. Does anyone know why the early season mid week fixtures were scrapped ?

(by the way the last time we had them was in 2007-8 season, when we drew 2-2 at Birmingham and O’Donovan sat on their keeper while we equalised).

Sorry Sam but a fixture pile up is bollocks. They are professional sportsmen. They are paid to be fit and play football. When I played Saturday & Sunday football towards the end of the season I was playing Saturday Sunday Tuesday Thursday for about 5 to 6 weeks every season as well as a full time job. I have no sympathy for any professional footballer re too many games as they are doing something I would have given anything to do.

To the question who's fault is it.
    Probably Syd.
He gets blamed for everything else.

As to these over paid "athletes" being tired I'm with Shack on this one.
It really aggravates me when they claim tiredness as an excuse for playing badly.

Eddie Izzard the fat gay 47 year old transvestite comedian managed the following.

On 27 July 2009, with only 5 weeks' training and no significant prior history of running, Izzard began seven weeks of back-to-back marathon runs (with Sundays off) across the UK to raise money for Sport Relief. He ran from London to Cardiff, to Belfast, to Edinburgh, and back to London carrying flags of England, Scotland or Wales depending on which country he was in, and carried a self-designed green flag bearing a white dove when in Northern Ireland. The blog Eddie Iz Running was a document of his road running marathon, in which he ran 43 marathons in 51 days. He completed the run on 15 September 2009, after having run at least 27 miles each day, 6 days a week for 7 weeks straight, covering more than 1,100 miles across the UK.[38] Izzard received a special award at BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2009 for his achievements

I never entioned tiredness, that wasn't my point at all. Rather than play a tenth of the season in 13 days at crimbo, I'd rather have more games at the start when we're all gagging fr a match after a summer break. p.s have a nice xmas.

Didn't UEFA order the Premier league to cut it's size by two clubs? That got rid of four fixtures straight away. Why? to benefit the champions league, possibly???
It seems to me everything UEFA do is to help out the big clubs.
Most Football fans in this country will never get to watch their team play in the CL yet everything is set up to help the five or six clubs that may just qualify. Take the fair play rules. Basically allows the already successful clubs spend more, ensuring it's the same clubs succeed year in year out.
Until the day Sunderland get there (I wish)...I only watch Barcelona.

How in Gods name did Eddie Izzard manage to run from Cardiff to Belfast?

Is there a new bridge or tunnel I never got told about?

He could have used a treadmill, whilst crossing on a ferry, clocking up his 26 miles that way.

What I wouldnt give to be fortunate enough to play football [ never had the talent ] or be able to run, arthritis runs my life these days , as it does so many people, but nevertheless grateful for what I can do, as for Eddie Izzard, never rated him, shows you how wrong people can be, so Eddy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,RESPECT.

I, like most fans love the games coming thick and fast over the holiday period, although I agree the midweek game before xmas is a strange one. I suppose with so many pointless Europa League games in early season there arent many slots!

Didn't Ranulf Fiennes (spelling) do 7 marathons in 7 days, in different continents?

As for fixtures, think the derbies should be kept for days like Boxing day (seems an appropriate named day) or New years day. Then the last day of the season, imagine the tension...
