Tough one Ensil especially as Ade isn't exactly scoring consistently is he? I'd play Pav before Defoe at the moment and see how he does over the next three weeks or so.I'd prefer Pav against Chelsea than Defoe. The second match after a defeat is to my mind more important than the first match. Anybody can get a win at home after a defeat away especially to relegation candidates but it's far more important to get a win in the second match, especially in our situation as we were on a great run. A win in the second match ensures the winning run continues apace after the blip of a defeat. It happens to be Chelsea and if we win this one bacon face will be right and we will challenge. If we lose it then I'm gloomy about our prospects. I hope I'm wrong but it looks like a draw. If Chelsea's indifferent form persists as in Wigan then we should win it as Drogba was rubbish. Today's results were one of those football coincidences with from the top. 0-2. 1-0. 0-2. 1-0. Two away wins with identical scores and two home wins with identical scores so maybe I shouldn't read too much into such a low score against a lowly club. We must beat Chelsea but our form needs to improve to be certain.
No HIAG we cannot. I think if we win against Chelsea a run will start again but if we lose we'll have a blip and the top clubs will get farther away. We could be 5 points away from Chelsea plus a win in hand could make it eight points. A win will give us confidence which I think we are lacking just a bit at the moment. With Liverpool doing well at Villa we have to make sure that we keep winning. All the other teams have Europe to distract them whereas we and Liverpool don't and I'm watching them closely.
The only difference that beating Chelsea will make is that it will encourage us to believe that we will finish 3rd or higher this season. If we lose, and provided we win our game in-hand, we are still the best placed to fight for 4th slot. Losing against Chelsea won't be at all shameful, provided they don't completely destroy us. We've got to beat Chelsea to seriously believe that we can finish above them, but if they beat us it will be a good result for them and should help to confirm them as favourites for 3rd. I really don't see it as a massive deal for us. Personally, I think we can and will beat Chelsea, and I think we should be challenging, not only for 3rd slot, but for the title. Having said that, I don't expect us to finish any higher than 4th, which probably is why I'm quite relaxed about everything. What ever happens, you've got to admit that we have been superb so far this season, and that the club has made us all proud to be Spurs fans.
We are in a superb position but we have been too wasteful in front of goal culminating in Modric's miss today. I'm STILL not convinced as you all are with Adebayor. Anyway losing to Chelsea will be bad considering their form is erratic. They beat City and then drew with Wigan but were not too convincing in their play for long periods in both matches. Now I think that their luck will run out but I'm just not sure when. It's vital that we stay in touch with the Manchesters,to put pressure on them etc. They have faltered a bit recently and I think that they can be caught especially by us more than the others.
Agreed Ensil. Somebody on the old BBC 606 thought that we might finish third last season but whoever it was(I can't remember who) looks like he might be only one season out. I'm watching City's next match with keen interest, just as much interest as ours. I'm tending to look up at the teams rather than down save for Liverpool. Newcastle are no longer a threat and Arsenal without RVP would be useless. Like I said,Chelsea are too erratic.
Yes I do too. There's talk of a bid for Torres. You know we all talk about Modric staying but he missed a sitter yesterday and against Arsenal last year which as I recall was instrumental in our failure to secure 4th spot. Sometimes he's anonymous but with whom do we replace him? Harry has a problem or two at the moment. Yesterday it took an out of favour striker to score for us and Defoe is unhappy. Adebayor IS inconsistent and VdV is not an out and out striker. I'm at a bit if a loss.
No Ensil,at a loss about what I see as less than stable strikers. A penalty v Stoke and PAOK and one goal yesterday= not very good. I'm at a loss as to whom to buy.
In fairness, the Stoke game can't be counted, had Shawcross not handballed and had he also not have tugged Kaboul down, we could have been looking at another two goals there, even if one of them would have been another penalty. Whom to buy? Very good question. Damiao is top of wish lists (high up in mine too if I'm honest) but realisticly, should we rely on a player with no Prem experience IF we signed him? I'd love Cavani, yes he has no Prem exp and he'd probably not be interested in joining us but if there was any chance in getting him, I'd say take the risk, pay £30m+, offer him good wages (on par with top earners) and incentives. He'd be perfect for us in my opinion.
I don't judge a player by their looks HD but if that's what floats your boat then good luck to ya In all seriousness, Ba looks really good, his goal record at his clubs has also been impresseive certainly wouldn't be disappointed to see him at the Lane. Another player I was looking at, as someone to make an impact off the bench was Grant Holt. Before I get slated, has anyone seen his goal record? Granted 99% has been against lower league opposition but it's bloody good! And he's showing this season he's a real handful. IF Pav was to go, I reckon he'd be an astute signing.
